Quiz on Bollywood in Bali

Quiz on Bollywood in BaliIn celebration of 100 Years of Indian Cinema, the Consulate General of India in Bali (Indonesia) organized a “Quiz on Bollywood” at its premises on Friday, 1 November 2013.  The Quiz programme was hosted by experienced Quiz Master Phanindra Ivatury, who has hosted over 200 quiz programmes in India and abroad.

The Bollywood Quiz was actively participated in large numbers by members of the Balinese and Indian communities. Six teams contested in the event and answered the questions related to different rounds named The Golden Era of Indian Cinema, The Age of Romance-Emergence of Parallel Cinema, One Man Industry, Present Day Bollywood apart from rounds on Hindi movie classics and personalities. The questions were narrative coupled with audio/visuals depicting the golden moments of Bollywood cinema at various stages. The team of Mr. Naved, Mrs. Heena Thapar and Mrs. Nilima emerged winners of the Quiz Contest.  Mr. Devender Rawat, Mrs. Simran and Mr. Surinder Singh Oberoi/Mr. Sameer emerged as well as the team of Mr. Manish Thapar, Dr. (Ms) Manju Singh and Mr. Mukesh Paliwan ended up joint Runners-up.  

Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General of India stated that the Indian cinema has recorded the milestone of 100 years of its existence. He elaborated that the first movie, a slient movie – Raja Harishchandra – was produced in May 1913. The first talking movie was made in 1931. The Consul General, along with the visiting Minister (Audit), Mr. Saurav Kumar Jaipuriyar, gave the prizes to the winners of the contest. Quiz Master Mr. Phanindra Ivatury was also felicitated by the Consul General with a memento.  The Bollywood Quiz was greatly appreciated by the contestants and audience and covered by the Balinese media, including by Bali TV.
