Animal Sacrifice at Tanah Lot

Animal Sacrifice at Tanah LotIt was one of the ways taken by the management of Tanah Lot tourist attraction in preserving the natural environment. The favorite tourist attraction located at Beraban village, Kediri subdistrict, about 10 km from Denpasar, organized a pecaruan (animal sacrifice) and pemelaspasan (inauguration) in the area of Tanah Lot Temple.

The ritual took place coinciding with the Tumpek Kandang (Uye) falling on Saturday (Jun 15). Procession of the ritual did not get disturbed though being organized amidst the flood of travelers visiting the tourist attraction constituting the fusion of nature and culture. The ritual was attended by all ranks of the Operations Management of the Tanah Lot tourist attraction.

Operations Manager, Ketut Toya Adnyana, said the ritual was a form of devotion to God. The ritual was centered in the main gates leading to the Tanah Lot Temple. “The ritual is intended to invoke the spiritual and physical balance of the world. By neutralizing the bhuta kala, its properties will turn into the nature of deities so as to achieve a balance,” he explained. (BTN/015)
