THERE was something unique in the piodalan or anniversary of the Pakendungan Temple, Saturday (Apr 6). The ceremony coinciding with the Kuningan festivity held a variety of ritual processions. A day earlier, it was held a purificatory rite to local spring where all the Hindu pilgrims were dressed in white. Such procession really became an interesting cultural attraction because it occurred on exotic beach background.
The anniversary held every six months (according to Balinese calendar) drew the attention of visitors to the tourist attraction. By the pinnacle of the ceremony, it was held the pengrebegan parading the Bendesa Sakti kris dagger heirloom. The procession was followed by people starting from Kediri Palace to Pakendungan Temple with the accompaniment of bleganjur gamelan music. After that, it was resumed with the implementation of anniversary taking place at 2:00 p.m.
Thousands of Hindu communities in Bali came to say prayers to the temple. Many pilgrims had been arriving since early morning at 04:00. And the atmosphere was very crowded from 10:00 a.m. until the evening. The anniversary celebration in the Pakendungan Temple lasted for 3 days.
Aside from the Pakendungan Temple, similar anniversary also took place in the Batu Mejan Temple located in the area of Enjung Galuh, adjacent to Batu Bolong Temple. Then, another anniversary was also held in the Patok Temple located very close to Pakendungan Temple. “Considering abundant pilgrims came to say prayers, we have anticipated the congestion by deploying security officers,” said the Operations Manager of Tanah Lot tourist attraction, I Ketut Toya Adnyana.
Likewise, the crowdedness also happened to parking service. Parking of the pilgrims’ vehicles was concentrated in the west parking of the Pakendungan Temple. Privately owned vacant land located precisely in the south of the public parking space of Tanah Lot tourist attraction was also taken advantage. “We also anticipate by installing signs with specific instructions for pilgrims,” he said.
According to him, it was very important because the tourist attraction relied on natural scenery and cultural attractions that were also filled with domestic and foreign tourists wishing to spend their holiday time. “We always maintain the convenience and security of visitors to Tanah Lot. Besides, it is an effort to keep the religious and silent atmosphere of the local sanctums,” he concluded. (BTN/015)
