The envoy of Badung representing Bali Province in the national Utsawa Dharma Gita (UDG) of festival of dharma chant in Jakarta lasting on July 12-15 could achieve encouraging results. It happened because all categories of the competition participated could get champion. It was delivered by the Head of the Badung Culture Agency, IB Anom Bhasma in the Badung Civic Center, Thursday (Jul 17).
Further, he explained the national UDG triennial event in 2014 held in Jakarta, Badung sent 10 participants having been selected and got the champion in Bali provincial level. The ten participants competing in 4 (four) categories included the palawakya of adult men, palawakya of teenage men, mixed teenage ballad and dharma wacana (sermon) in Bahasa Indonesia of women category.
Of the four categories of competition, all of Badung envoys could win. For teenage men palawakya, Badung achieved the first winner represented by I Putu Raka Wijana and I Putu Yogi Suarsana. Then, for the category of adult men palawakya Badung won the second place on behalf of I Wayan Surma and I Made Gunadi; mixed teenage ballad could achieve the second position represented by Gusti Ngurah Made Widia Astawa, I Wayan Aris Wiryanta, Ni Wayan Martha Surya Dewi, Ni Made Elita Ambara Putri and Ni Luh Mupu Puspita Dewi; the envoy of dharma wacana in Bahasa Indonesia for adult women won the first place on behalf of IGAA Arya Kusuma Dewi.
One of the participants winning the first place, IGAA Arya Kusuma Dewi, 22, or Gung Dewi as she is affectionately known, acknowledged to be very pleased and proud of the accomplishment achieved. “I am very proud of being able to give a champion to the region in the national arena as well as help preserve the culture and literature of Hinduism,” she said while smiling.
Kusuma Dewi, doubling as one of the Public Relations and Protocol staff in the Badung government, admitted her success at the national level was not easy. It required persistence in practice. “I have interest in pursuing Hindu literatures from my childhood. Similarly, I have often participated in competitions during my schools and could reach the best and the peak of the hard work and perseverance has led me to the UDG achievement in the national level for 3 times namely in 2008, 2011 and 2014,” said Gung Dewi from Sandakan hamlet, Sulangai village, Petang.
