The opening of the Bali Arts Festival (BAF) XXXV of Badung County seemed more festive. Aside from presenting various art and cultural attractions, the annual event opened by the Regent of Badung AA Gde Agung on Wednesday (Jun 5) was also attended by the Ambassador of African Seychelles, Nico Barito and his students. The BAF taking the theme Taksu: Generating Creative Power and Identity was very crowded when it was graced with various femininity competitions. They were ranging from the making of lamak, young coconut leaf arrangement, cooking all-fish cuisines to slicing the red and while sticky rice cake. Last but not least was the contest of fashion for attending wedding invitation as well as working uniform made of endek clothes.
In the performing arts presentation, all the art troupes that would make a performance at the Bali Arts Festival (BAF) of Bali Province also appeared as a form of warming up. They displayed the parade of gong kebyar for adult category such as by the Sekar Madu Segara gamelan troupe, Jong Kumara children gong kebyar troupe from SMPN 2 Mengwi secondary school and Sri Sruti Budaya women gong kebyar troupe from Buduk village.
Meanwhile, the baleganjur parade was represented by Dalem Temple Salunding gamelan troupe. The other presentations included the gallivanting show by Yudistira Dance Studio, Ardha Nareswari Semara Pegulingan Studio, Citta Usadhi arja operetta, Bandana Budaya Sari drama, Mangupraja Sabha psalmodic group, Gangsa Dewa children puppet gender gamelan troupe, and Kuta Kumara Agung parwa puppet troupe. There were also vocal presentation by Mahardika Studio, handicraft competition and literary appreciation.
Regent Gde Agung revealed the BAF XXXV was a medium of preservation, discovery and development of the arts and culture. It had been able to contribute high motivation to Badung people, appreciate and improve the quality of the arts and culture leading to the sustainable Bali.
The Head of Badung Culture Agency, Ida Bagus Anom Bhasma, doubling as the committee chairman expressed the objective of the event was to develop and preserve the Balinese art and culture. Besides, it was also giving an opportunity to the artists to show off their skill of the arts and culture. (BTN/015)
