Amid the crisis of generation, the puppetry art even came up grandiosely packaged in the Bali Puppetry Festival and Seminar. Such first international event was organized at the Setiadarma House of Masks and Puppets in, Gianyar, and lasted for six days (Sep 22-27). In the festival was presented the performances by delegates from various countries such as Indonesia, the United States, Japan, Iran, Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, Germany, Czech, the Philippines and the Netherlands. The artists and scholars from various countries also had the opportunity to interact, learn and share their experiences about the arts during the event taking place.
Local artists getting involved in the event were from Bali, Java, Madura and several regions in the archipelago. Some of them displayed Wayang Kancil, Wayang Sasak, Wayang Beber and Wayan Anom. Meanwhile, at the end of the festival, the artists from several countries staged an artistic collaboration. Independent Commissioner of BCA, Cyrillus Harinowo, as supporter of the Bali Puppetry Festival and Seminar, said that such an event was a medium to develop and introduce the Indonesian puppet (wayang) in the eyes of the international community. Puppet posed a powerful figure reflecting the solidarity, spirituality and harmony with nature.
Previously, it was organized the exhibition and competition of photography entitled the World of Wayang 2013. It could draw more than 700 participants. “Indonesia is one of the countries having a variety of puppet characters. Then, the BCA supports the Bali Puppetry Festival & Seminar 2013 as a venue to introduce the Indonesian cultural heritage to the world,” he said. (BTN/015)
