Nian Anggara and IB Chakra were selected as the Denpasar Endek Ambassador 2013. Nian is a representative of the Faculty of Medicine, Warmadewa University (girl) and IB Chakra from Udayana University (son) could beat out dozens of other participants. Denpasar Mayor IB Rai Darmawijaya Mantra and Chairwoman of Dekranasda Denpasar Mrs. IA Selly D. Mantra immediately awarded the prize to them and the other winners.
The activity in conjunction with the commemoration of National Batik Day took place at the Hotel Inna Bali Denpasar, Wednesday (Oct 2). Chairperson of the National Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) of Denpasar, Mrs. Selly Dharmawijaya Mantra, said that endek ambassador selection was an effort to preserve and develop the endek textile products. Similarly, it was to promote endek, especially among teenagers.
Assessment of the Denpasar Endek Ambassador had been started since September 20 in the Sanur Village Festival (SVF) event. The participants included the representatives from each high schools/vocational schools and universities throughout Denpasar. The assessment system included writing test, interview, visiting trip and answering questions. “Appearance of the endek ambassador in the SVF event poses the promotions of endek weaving fabric as one of the valuable products of the local wisdom,” she explained.
