HOW captivating the presentation of boys and girls in a beautiful outfit and swaying movement on stage was. Color and fabric pattern in use were truly fascinating. Moreover, each step was accompanied with swirling of beautiful smile so it made their appearance more beautiful. They did not only look quite stylish, but also competed to show off insight and behavior.
It was the appearance of the youth in the Teruna Teruni Denpasar (TTD) beauty pageant in the Ksiraarnawa Hall of the Denpasar Art Center, Saturday (Feb 22). The selection was similar to the Abang None Jakarta where the assessment was based on the ability of insight (brain), behavior, beauty and braveness.
The selection was followed by 127 participants consisting of 48 boys and 79 girls. They came from high school, college and customary village youth club (ST). The jury panel involved the competent agencies in their own field such as psychologist, beauty foundation, youth organization, Dharma Acarya Foundation and the Denpasar Government Tourism Office.
The Head of Denpasar Government Tourism Office, I Putu Budiasa, said that such an event was held considering the younger generation was the successor to the development and the asset that had to be protected, nurtured and directed. “On that account, it must be prepared a medium for learning and strengthening their identity of character,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Denpasar, IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra, said the selection was very good for the character building of the younger generation, in addition to the intellectual and cultural aspect. Cultural values might not be separated because it also contained the mental, spiritual and intellectual aspect becoming the points to assess the local knowledge. “This must be understood if we want to prepare the next excellent generation with an integrity and strong character,” said Rai Mantra.
Younger generation as the successor of the development, according to Rai Mantra, was the generation having the capability of creating and responsibility while enhancing the nation’s standard of living rooted in the values of local wisdom. According to him, we should be proud of using the cultural products because it was a product with the identity. “Now, we must be able to establish the younger generation in the activities or programs to be facilitated so they can absorb the cultural values,” said Rai Mantra.
