Monkey Forest Holds Ritual for Monkey

Monkey Forest Holds Ritual for MonkeyMonkey Forest will hold a Tumpek Kandang ritual on Saturday (Jan 11). The ritual posing a manifestation of love for animals and nature will be held grandiosely and officiated over by a high priest. “This ritual serves as an offering to Lord Rare Angon, the god of animal shepherd, especially monkeys in the Monkey Forest,” said the Operations Manager, Putu Suartika.

At the time of Oton Bojog or birthday of the monkey, the management also gives special food to the monkeys as forest dwellers. The food includes eggs, papaya, bread and fruits. At that time, visitors will be able to see a monkey party. “This is an implementation of the Tri Hita Karana concept as an expression of gratitude for the monkeys that have helped give a fortune,” he said.

The Oton Bojog ritual is commenced with the purification rite of the location. Then, it is resumed with the presentation of offering as gratitude to the Creator. All residents of the Padang Tegal village, Ubud, say prayers together and ask in order that hundreds of monkeys in the forest of Ubud are always given a good health. (BTN/015)
