Hundreds of artists of Denpasar City presented a colossal dance-drama show entitled Sang Sutasoma at the Bali Pavilion of the Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII), Jakarta. This beautiful art composition was in accordance with the festive stage. Agile movement of the dancers and accents of the gamelan players made the performance get tremendous appreciation.
The dance-drama art show to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the TMII had duration of an hour. Such performance presented three sets of gamelan like the semar pegulingan, gong gede and gong kebyar brought from Bali. Serving as art director of the show was Komang Astita, Made Sukarda as choreographer and Ketut Suandita as gamelan music arranger.
The Head of Denpasar Culture Agency, Made Mudra, accompanied by the Art Division Head Suaryadala and Staging Documentation Section Head Sudiana said when watching the rehearsal the story of Sutasoma needed featuring because the storyline gave many moral messages about the rise of human consciousness based on Dharma or genuine truth.
To make the performance successful, he continued, his party had been making preparations since mid-March by involving all the dancers and gamelan players in addition to forming a permanent committee.
In addition to the staging of dance-drama, the artist entourage of Denpasar also featured the mascot dance of Denpasar namely the Jempiring (Gardenia) Dance and Tenggek Dance and Ritus Legong Dance entitled Goddess Uma packed in the Cultural Charm program. (BTN/015)
