Regional Handicraft Council (Dekranasda) of Bangli County organized Endek Fashion Contest at the Giri Kusuma Cultural Hall, Thursday (May 30). With the theme “My Endek, My Culture,” the cultural contest was followed by 38 participants constituting the representatives of regional working unit (SKPD) and regional and state-owned enterprises in Bangli.
Aside from design or motif, the criteria assessed by the jury panel were the neatness of sewing, clothing (standard fashion design used by the agency uniform), stage control elements and expression of each participant. Of the criteria, design or motif was the most significant element in the contest. “The contest is expected to stimulate the development of endek clothes,” said Chairperson of the Regional Handicraft Council of Bangli, Mrs. Erik Gianyar.
The endek fashion contest, explained Mrs. Erik Gianyar, was an effort to preserve the potential of weaving craft, so that it was not undermined in harmony with the passage of times. Moreover, the endek clothes had been favored by many lineups, both young and old. “Celebration of the 809th anniversary of Bangli town is a good moment to introduce further the endek clothes,” she said.
Meanwhile, First Assistant to Regional Secretary of Bangli Government, Alit Darmawan, said that such an event would be able to stimulate the development of endek clothes in Bangli County. Similar event should continue to be held, so that it could contribute to the development of endek in Bali. “The best design of endek in the contest will be used as sample of working clothes by Bangli government in the future,” he said.
