Kintamani
Dogs
Many
people like to own Kintamani dogs, and breeding
this type of dog has become big business.
There are around 12,000 dogs of this breed
throughout the Bangli Regency, where Kintamani
is located, alone.
According
to veterinarian Drh. Ida Bagus Sebia, these
dogs are known for being quite independent.
They are 40 55 cm tall, and have
long, thick hair, which usually stands up
vertical or in swirls. They come in a variety
of colours, including black and tan. A special
Kintamani dog is belang bungkem (black-and-white),
which is sometimes used in offerings for
some Hindu religious rites. They are generally
intelligent and well behaved. They can forage
for their own food, usually living off a
diet of small animals and sweet tubers of
a creeping plant called Ipomoea batatas,
Kintamani
dogs have so many attractive physical attributes
that some locals suggest that it become
the symbol and mascot of the Bangli regency.
One such place is Sukawana village located
near Pura Penulisan on the highest point
of Kintamani, which also has the highest
population of this kind of dog. (Suka)
