National Nutrition Day
Balis
PERSAGI Association of Nutritionists organized
a number of events aimed at improving the
islands nutrition knowledge to commemorate
National Nutrition Day, on 25 January 2003.
Coordinated by Balis Health Department,
supported by the Denpasar Poltekes Health
Polytechnic Nutrition Branch, located at
Jalan Gemitir No. 72, east Denpasar. Events
include seminars, social awareness lessons,
low-price market, and nutrition exhibition.
The seminar theme was Consumption
of Fast Food and the Prevention of Obesity
in Children. This event related to
many institutes and associations such as
Kindergartens, the Association for Family
Prosperity, Dharma Wanita womens
union of government officials, lecturers
from the Health Polytechnic, health workers
from state-owned and private hospitals,
and the general public.
The seminar took place at Bumi Asih
Hotel in Renon, on 25 January 2003, with
papers submitted by Rina Maharani, DCN (nutritionist),
Retno G. Kusuma (psychologist), Prof. Suci
(pediatrician)) and dr. Manku Karnaya as
moderator. The social awareness activities
took place in Desa Abang Songan, Kintamani,
Bangli, on 17 January 2003. The low-price
market and relaxed walking race held in
the courtyard of the Health Office of Bali
Province at Jalan Melati Denpasar, on 24
January 2003.
The Nutrition Exhibition with the theme
of By this Nutrition Exhibition, to
improve community knowledge on nutrition
in order to achieve nutritional status on
the eve of a Healthy Bali in 2005.
The exhibition took place in three villages
of Desa Dawan Kaler, Pikat and Pesinggahan,
in Dawan, Klungkung for one month during
February 2003. The exhibition included displays
of main nutritional questions in Bali, a
display of nutrition for 5 year old babies,
school children, youths, pregnant and lactating
mothers, food for the aged and nutrition
for vegetarians (Posyandu), and of Nutrition
Consultation. (Buda)
