“Melasti” at the Lake Beratan

TABANAN - On Sunday, 30 March 2003, thousands of Balinese Hindus gathered in Pura Ulun Danu ( Lake Beratan Temple ) for “Melasti” (the march to the sea or lake to purify the temple’s implements) connected to Nyepi ( Balinese New Year ) Çaka 1925. The ceremony started with the cleansing of the “Pretima” together with “Mulang Pretima” (drowning sacrifices in the lake) delivered by the boats. After all of the processions had finished, the sects who came from many villages in Tabanan prayed in the temple for world safety.

Asian Innovation Forum

SANUR - Asia is now facing a transitional period. This means that the civilization norms abolition will occur every where. It especially occurs in South East Asia. For that reason, the bond institutes from the other countries together with the Information and Resource Center (IRC) hosted the Asian Innovation Forum (AIF) 2003 in The Raddin Hotel at Sanur (15th-18th of March). The forum was mainly focused on the term “idea development in the global way within Political, Cultural, Economical and Technological issues” in order to discuss the main problem within Asia. The forum was attended by representatives of Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Burma, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia. The Poverty of Culture, the Culture of Poverty, Peace and Reconstruction, Globalization Religion and Democracy, the Dialogue of Cultures were the five main topics of the forum. The institutions which attended the forum were: The Bali Committee, The Center of Globalization and Social Studies and The Habibie Center (Indonesian institutions), Sultan Iskandar of Urban Habitat and Highrise (Malaysian institution), the La Liga Policy Institute (Philippines), and The Congress of Southeast Asian Librarian (Consal) and The Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan. Upgrading of a Tourist-Conscious Group

DENPASAR – There is a hope that Bali’s tourism development would directly be manageable by communities to their advantage so as to realize growth of its tourist conscience with the goal of attaining a sense of belonging completed with its preservation, a government official said recently.
Chief of Bali’s Sub-Department of Tourism Resources, Drs. Putu Sudiarta gave the statement, while conferring to ‘Bali Travel News’ at the time when ‘Darwis’ Tourist-Conscience Upgrading was taking place in Hotel Darmawan, Denpasar.
The upgrading was organized from 23-28 March 2003 and transferred study materials concerning tourism. This was specifically on Bali’s tourism history with papers presented by Prof. Dr. I Gede Pitana on Eco-tourism and Agro-tourism, Raka Dalem on Preservation of Tourism Environment, also Arts and Culture by Ida Ayu Agung Mas and Tourism Marketing by Drs. I Made Muka.
The upgrading participants will be able to intensify their regional potentials from this training process to uphold common interests in a progressive line. Raka Dalem in his paper to the upgrading participants stressed the importance of preserving cultural tourism. (dar)

 

Metropolitan Model 2003

KUTA - The Indonesian Metropolitan Model Selection 2003 (Bali) was held at The Hard Rock Hotel, Kuta on Saturday night (15/3). The fashion show and modelling competition showed the works of Jakartan and Balinese designers. From 60 finalists (men and women), Galih Rakasiwi and Ida Ayu Swasti Astuti were chosen as the winners, followed by I Ketut Agus Suardijaya and Fitri Kusuma Dewi in second place and third place went to I Putu Baturiasta and Kadek Sukmawati. I Putu Budi Utama and Nathalie Ginawati Mooij were awarded most sought after contestants. Besides that, Irfan Setiaso and Jade Subamia also won the photogenic category. All of the winners accepted their trophies and prizes and will compete in The Indonesian Metropolitan Model Selection 2003 in Jakarta next March. (dar)

 

Jatra’s Clean Up Activity

KUTA - Recently, management and staff of Jatra Hotel Kuta led by the GM, Made Yadnya, participated in a Clean Up program at Uluwatu temple. This activity is related to the 4th Jatra Hotel anniversary programme. In the picture are some of the clean up participants. (rd)
