Bangli, Peace and Harmony

Business is Still Booming in Bangli

There has been an increase in production of gold and silver in areas around Bangli. The expansion includes the villages of Demulih, Apuan, Undisan, Bangbang and more. This is good news for recruiting manpower, decreasing unemployment and improving the local people’s standard of living.

An official of The Cooperative, Industry and Commerce Department of Bangli, Drs. I Made Sutika, told Bali Travel News recently that the silver and gold industry has shown great development in Bangli. This has been the main industry in Bangli for generations and it is fortunate to have retained its existence here.
According to Sutika, most of the traditional products made are implements used for rituals e.g. bowls and holy water containers, traditional dress and dancing implements, etc. Inspite of the current economic crisis, craftsmen have managed to keep their businesses going. This is possibly because of the constant need for products which will be used for endless religious ceremonies.
One of the Banjar Pande craftsmen, Jero Muki does not care to distinguish between a product with a traditional or a modern design, he proudly claimed that he was capable of fulfilling consumers’ demands. Such a fact proves that the gold and silver industry still remains in high demand. (

Craftsmen Should Develop Their Share of the Market

Craftsmen from Bangli would be wise to market their silver and gold products carefully as business is really flourishing there. They should not just depend on the usual orders but try to enlarge the market share to make sure that business continues to thrive.
I Gede Koyan Eka Putra, who has been helping many tourist based industries, advocated his idea to Bangli’s craftsmen reminding them that so far they have not made the most of the market potential. Mr. Koyan proposed that they should follow the example of prima Kintamani.
Many visitors have visited Kintamani to buy gold and silver handicrafts however there is only a limited number of goods such as rings and bracelets. The underlying reasons affecting such a marketing issue, according to Koyan, has been among others the lack of promotion by the media and a lack of ability shown by entrepreneurs.
Koyan also spoke of the need to improve the condition of some popular tourist places in the area as this could help the marketing potential of gold and silver products. (Suka)
