The
Waters Awarded
for Frequent Visit
SANUR
One couple from New Zealand
have frequented Bali more than 25
times since 1989. Bali Travel News
Bi-weekly gave the couple, Malcolm
Collin and Noeline June Waters, a
certificate recently as an appreciation
for their good example of loving Bali
and its people. They prefer to spend
money on visiting Bali to buying expensive
furniture for their home. They always
stay at Hotel Griya Santrian Beach
in Sanur, a site where the award ceremony
took place Monday, 21 April 2003.
In effect, the couple have traveled
to Bali 35 times.
The award given is a simple one in
the form of a certificate and painting
from the Bali Travel News collection
but the New-Zealanders have happily
appreciated the gift. The couple took
the opportunity to talk about how
they like Bali. In the eyes of the
couple, the beaches in Bali are beautiful,
while the Hotel Griya Santrian Beach
in Sanur Beach is fine. They have
found the Balinese people are agreeable,
sincere and friendly. Such traits
shown by Balinese have made them love
this Island of the Gods since their
first visit in December 1989. (Wisnu/dar)

Controversial
Visa Regulation Policy Visa
The
Presidents Decision Kepres
No.18/2003, dated 31 March 2003 on
Visa-free Short-term Visits has caused
controversy among some quarters of
Balis tourism industry. The
decision containing nine articles
has caused intense nervousness in
view of the fact that Indonesian tourism,
especially in Bali, is at a seriously
low ebb following a range of tragedies
such as the U.S. Black September,
Balis Black October, the U.S.
Invasion of Iraq and the danger of
SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).
When the presidential decision becomes
law, the states that will be given
facility of visa-free short-term visit
facility will drop by 49 countries
including the big ten which proPATA
bazaar organized by Dekranasda
Regional Council of Nationvide tourists
to Indonesia, especially to Bali.
Fear has arisen that this condition
will dramatically decrease the number
of tourist visiting this archipelago.
The Indonesian government through
its mouthpiece, Minister of Justice
and Basic Human Rights, Yusril Ihza
Mahendra, has posed a reason that
the issuance of the Presidential decision
has gained its bearing of three principles,
i.e. use, reciprocity, and security.
The eleven countries which will still
enjoy the use of the visa-free tourist
visit are Thailand, Brunei Darussalam,
Macao, the Philippines, Malaysia,
Singapure, Hong Kong, Morocco, Chile,
Peru and Turkey.
