Welcoming
the Galungan and Kuningan
For
any great holiday, whether religious or
New Year holidays, hundreds of finely designed
greeting cards are launched onto the market.
Globalization has introduced greeting cards
to every inch of the world. It is all thanks
to Sir Henry Cole (1843-1882), a British
artist who was expert at publication art.
Due to his creative ideas and works he was
honored with the noblemans title,
Sir, after his death in 1882.
He is considered to be the pioneer of greetings
cards.
In Bali for celebrating the Nyepi or Galungan
and Kuningan Holidays, there are various
greeting cards on the market too with a
wide choice of designs. Generally the consumers
of the cards are students, the young generation
and companies. They express holiday greetings
and maintain social relationships with friends
and family or those who are staying outside
the island.
Such creative designs may reflect various
aspects of local culture like some traditional
dances, ritual activities, local flora and
fauna and other Balinese lifestyles.(BTN/029)
