Future trends in Tourism

KUTA - Ms. Christine Beddoe, an expert in tourism from Australia, is conducting research on future trends in tourism industries, which will take place over 3 years in 6 countries. She is focusing on looking at tourism from human (pawongan). On her study visit to Bali, Mr. Nyoman Darma Putra and Mr. A. A Gde Raka Dalem, both from Udayana University-Denpasar, are acting as assistants with her study. On a short communication with Raka Dalem she said that she hopes that tourism in Bali will recover soon, so fewer workers will be suffering from unemployment. (BTN/028)

Bali’s Black October in Photos

DENPASAR - Bali Post photographer, Iwan Darmawan, exhibits his work related to Bali’s Black October in Denpasar’s Cultural Park inside the Arts Foundation Building. The exhibition entitled “Against Inner Spirit” opened on 12 June and finishes on 12 July 2003. It includes 34 photographs measuring 40 x 30cm aimed at satisfying interest of the public visiting the 25th Bali’s Art Festival. The event also commemorates the Bali Post’s 55th Anniversary. Iwan Darmawan was born in Tabanan and studied at Jakarta’s Institute of Art (IKJ) in the Film and Television Department. He pointed out that the theme of the exhibition was to remind us that Bali had survived the terrorist efforts to provoke mutual distrust among various ethnic groups and national disunity. (BTN/018)

Bajra Sandhi Monument

DENPASAR - There are 40 painters and sculptors in the ‘Group 14’ painting exhibition from 14 June until 14 July 2003. The exhibition is in the basement of the Balinese Struggle Monument that is usually called ‘Bajra Sandhi’. This exhibition aims to commemorate the 25th Bali Arts Festival of 2003, and also to introduce the only struggle monument in Bali that was newly officiated by Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri. The painting exhibited consists of many ideologies from naturalist and abstract-figurative as the work of the painter such as Putra Jaya, Putra Udiyana, Bagus Alit, Made Tinggal, Budiasa, Wijaya, Dewa Merta, Beratha Yasa, Suardana, Kawantara, Ardana, Sri Jati, Sutapa, Korniati, and I.B. Gede. There are also a number of woodcarvings. (BTN/018)

Old Artists Accreditation

DENPASAR – The Governor of Bali, represented by Vice Governor, I Gusti Alit Putra, on Monday 30/6, dedicated a certificate of accreditation to 9 aged artists. They are the representatives from 9 regencies and towns from all over Bali. The procession took place at Ksirarnawa building, Denpasar, together with this year Bali’s 25th Art Festival. Besides the accreditation certificates, they also received a set of Balinese costumes, cash of Rp. 3.000.000, as well as health insurance. This reward was given for their loyal efforts in art, until they reached over 60 years old. (BTN/015)

 

Donations for Victims

Seminyak - On May 30th at The Royal Seminyak, previously known as Hotel Imperial Bali, a special event was held, inviting some of the victims of the bombing tragedy in Legian/ Kuta on October 12th 2002 to receive donation collected from guests staying there from October to December 2002.
