A New Hotel
PECATU
- Bali will be having a new hotel!
Yes, P.T. Jimbaran Villas in Pecatu
village, South Kuta Sub-District will
build a new five star hotel, in Badung
Regency, called Bulgari Hotel and
Resort. Mr. K.G. Dharma Putra, M.Sc.
has led an Environmental Impact Study
for the hotel. According to study
team member (AMDAL) Mr. A. A. Gde
Raka Dalem, M.Sc., before being built,
a hotel should study its impact at
the pre-construction, construction
and post-construction stages of its
development. The hotel should also
monitor its negative impacts on the
environment and minimize them as much
as possible so sustainable development
can be achieved. (BTN/028)

High-rated
Multinational Musical Gathering
in Bali
A
musical collaboration by musicians
from 25 countries came together
for world peace in a concert considered
an energetic and visually exciting
four-hour extravaganza. This was
a very important event in Balis
tourism calendar, taking place on
Saturday 14 June 2003 in Garuda
Wisnu Kencana Park. Musical stars
representing the diverse cultures
of Australia, France, Japan, Korea,
United Kingdom, Latin America and
the US appeared at the event, to
the excitement of Mr. Amadeo Zarzoza,
the general manager of the Intercontinental
Resort Bali at Jimbaran Beach, who
was also a host and one of the sponsors
of the gathering.
The four-hour concert honored the
recipient of the prestigious Life
of Peace award, Gloria Gaynor (USA),
selected by a committee of Nobel
Prize winners, philanthropists,
UN representatives, religious leaders,
Head of States and fellow musicians.
The World Peace Music Awards
producers were Matt Taylor, Miles
Copeland, and Jay Coleman, while
Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri
sanctioned the awards. According
to Taylor with his fellow music
industry veterans Copeland and Coleman,
it was only possible to arrange
the event in the predominantly Hindu
Island of Bali.
Organizers of the Concert for Peace
see it as a positive and non-violent
response to recent tragedies worldwide,
including Balis Black October
where more than 200 people died.
Mr. Zarzoza has projected that the
show could capture an audience of
1.5 billion viewers throughout the
world, with 15,000 people attending
the live event, making it the largest
musical assembly ever on the Island
of Peace and the highest-rated musical
event ever. Mr. Zarzora presented
a miniature of an Indonesian gamelan
musical instrument to Matt Taylor.(BTN/005)
