Central Java Cultural, Temple and Handicraft Tour

Solo Selo Borobudur (SSB) Travel line was opened by the President of Republic Indonesia, Madame Megawati Soekarnoputri on October 17, 2002 in Selo. SSB Travel Line offers beautiful views and trips to many potential tourist attractions such as:

  • Solo with many splendid cultural attractions including Kasunanan and Mangkunegaran Palaces, Triwindu Flea Market, Klewer traditional market, Radya Pustaka Museum and several batik painting home industries.
  • Selo with scenic views, bronze handicrafts, "Napas Bumi Merapi", the only volcano theatre in Indonesia.
  • Borobudur Temple which one of the nine wonders of the world and the biggest Buddhist temple in the world.

There are 3 SSB Packages Tours.

1. SSB ONE DAY TOUR (Breakfast at hotel)
07.00 am- Leave Hotel for a full day trip. Visit Kasunanan Palace to see the great heirlooms of the Keraton. Then drop into the Klewer Traditional Market, which sells all kinds of batiks. Proceed to Radya Pustaka Museum, which is located in Sriwedari Park. Next visit the center of the bronze industry to see the making of bronze handicrafts at Tumang/ Cepogo Village. Proceed to Selo Pass Area to see the amazing waterfall of Kedungkayang and Merapi, Merbabu from the west area of Ketep.Depending on the weather, visitors may be able to observe the great Merapi volcano at the shelter of Babadan village. Continue to Mungkid, Magelang Regency to see Mendut, Pawon and Borobudur Temple, the great Buddhist cultural heritage sites. Leave temple for Solo via Muntilan - Prambanan - Klaten. Arrive at Hotel at approximately 8.00 pm.


2. SSB TWO DAY TOUR :

Day 1 (Breakfast at hotel)
07.00 am - Start from hotel to proceed to Kasunanan Palace and then to the Klewer Traditional Market for Batik cloth souvenirs. Continue to the Tri Windu Flea Market, which provides antique goods and replicas of Kasunanan treasures. Walk to Mangkunegaran Palace to enjoy Javanese Classic Dances with gamelan orchestra. Lunch at a famous Indonesian or European restaurant.
Proceed to the center of bronze home industry at Tumang-Cepogo, Boyolali Regency to see the making of bronze handicrafts. Leave Tumang village for Selo Area (Climbing Base-camp) at the Selo Sub District. Climbing preparation - checking equipment, foods and documents. Start climbing via Selo.

Day 2
At 04.30am arrive in the "Pasar Bubrah", for break and refreshments. At 05.00am enjoy the beautiful "silhouettes" panorama on the peak of Mount Merapi to see the sunrise and have coffee and breakfast. Start descent back to the Selo base-camp (Lunch box provided). Then proceed to the great Borobudur Temple (stop over Ketep), continue to the Prumpung Stone Carving, located at Prumpung village Muntilan to see the process of stone carving. Back to Solo via Prambanan - Klaten. About 6.30 pm arrive back at hotel


3. SSB THREE DAY TOUR
Day 1 (Breakfast at hotel)
07.00 am - Leave hotel for a visit to the SMKI (Indonesian Javanese Gamelan Music High School) to see the students' demonstrations coinciding with karawitan subjects (Dalang/wayang operators, dances and music gamelan). Proceed to the Kasunanan Palace and then the Kelewer Traditional Batik Market. After shopping for Batik cloth, proceed to the Radya Pustaka museum, which houses most of the Karaton treasures. Lunch at a restaurant.
After lunch, go to the Tri Windu Flea Market for antiques and replicas of the Keraton treasures. Walk to the Mangkunegaran Palace to see the Javanese Classical Dance and Gamelan Music. Check into hotel in the afternoon. Evening Solo City sightseeing tour.

Day 2 (Breakfast at hotel)
07.00 am - Leave hotel to visit the center of the Danar Hadi/Keris Batik Industry to see the making of traditional and modern batik. Then proceed to Mojolaban village, Sukoharjo Regency to see the making of the gamelan and wayang crafting. Next destination is Cepogo/Tumang village to see the process of making bronze handicrafts. (Lunch box provided). After lunch, proceed to the Selo Area at the Selo Sub District, to see the beautiful natural panorama of Kedung Kayang waterfall, and to see Merapi, Merbabu from Ketep area. Then, depending on the weather, continue to the observation area of Mount Merapi at the shelter of Babadan village. Proceed to Mungkin, Magelang regency. Check into hotel.

Day 3 (Breakfast at hotel)
05.00 am - Leave early in the morning to see the sunrise from the top of Borobudur Temple Then proceed to the Rafting Pier of Elo/Progo River. Rafting along Elo/Progo. Lunch at the rafting pier.
After lunch proceed to the great Borobudur Temple to see the beauty of Buddhist Heritage. Return to Solo via Muntilan - Prambanan - Klaten, dropping in at Prumpung Stone Crafting Center to see the process of making stone statues/crafts. Most of the stones are taken from Mount Merapi. Approximately at 07.00 pm arrive in Solo.
