First
Verdict Announced
The
first verdict for the case of accused Bali
bomber, Amrozi, will be delivered by a panel
of judge lead by Made Karna, on Thursday,
7 August at Nari Graha Court, Denpasar.
Amrozi, known as ‘the smiling suspect’
captured first and brought into the trial
12 May. After hearing more than 55 witnesses,
the time has come for the judge to wrap
up all information appeared on court as
the basis of the verdict.The prosecutor
proposed a death sentence for Amrozi because
of his role as one of the planners of the
Bali blast in October 2002. His defense
lawyer, however, claimed Amrozi was only
a helper of the plot, not a planner. The
defense lawyer admitted the involvement
of his client in the Bali bombing but rejected
the claim that he was the planner.
During the trial, the prosecutor described
the details rule of the accused beginning
from buying Mitsubishi van L-300 that became
the car-bomb, buying chemicals, shipping
the chemicals to Bali and organising human
resources with others to make the bomb in
Bali. Although Amrozi was not in Bali on
the day of the blast, because he was back
in his village at Tenggulun, East Java,
the prosecutor is convinced that Amrozi
played an important role in the plot.During
the last hearing toward the verdict, Amrozi
was given a chance to make his objection,
but he did not take the chance by saying
that if he presented his objection other
“kafir” (unreligious people) would
think that he is a coward who trying to
stay away from death sentence.
After the verdict was delivered on the August
7th, both the accused and his defense lawyer
and the prosecutor will be given the chance
to respond to the verdict. It is much predicted
that the accused and defense lawyer will
appeal to the higher court which they have
to lodge in written to the court in one
week from the verdict time.Therefore, it
is still few month to go until the fate
of ‘the smiling suspect’ be known
for his accused act in the Bali blast that
killed more than 200 people, mainly foreigners.

50 Swiss cows will meadow in Bali. They
are not ordinary cow, but are made to real
size out of polyester or fiberglass and
enlivened by the magical touch of Balinese
traditional and contemporary painters. This
unique art event is for the first time in
Bali. In the press conference on last Thursday
(17/7) at Bali Hyatt Hotel, Sanur, presents
several figures of that event, such as I
Gusti Raka Panji Tisna (Art Coordinator),
Peter Struder (Event Director), Ruby Struder
(Art Director), Edward Naus (Rotary Club),
Brata Hardjosubroto (Nestle Representative),
Arief Budiman (Media Relation). This event
is as the charity event that is dedicated
to the young Balinese artist community,
and is aimed to help them for keep constantly
in creating and producing the traditional
painting art. This event will take place
from 24 July – 7 August 2003 and the
main event of the cow’s auction will
take place on 9 Agustus 2003 at Garuda Wisnu
