Balinese Benhur and Dances

The Bali Province anniversary falls on August 14, the anniversary of Negara, the capital town of Jembrana Regency (West Bali) falls on August 15 and the Indonesia Independent Day falls on August 17, 2003. In this case, the citizen of Negara commemorate three commemoration ceremonies during the month that lasts in the second week, 10 – 17 August 2003. Preparing the celebration, the town looks more beautiful; decorated with banner, national flag and ‘penjor’, the decorated bamboo pole.
During a week celebration, there will be sport competition and art performances. The sport competition namely: ‘Jembrana 10 K’, fishing and sampan competition. The local also can participate in ‘penjor’ competition and ‘baleganjur’ (Balinese drum-band). The most popular gamelan competition “Gong Kebyar” are held four times by the group based in other regencies.
The cultural parade is held on 15 August 2003 in front of Regencies Office, the Jembrana Authority. In this parade, other art form from East Java (neighbor) will participate the event. Balinese pop song and ‘jegog’ are also on the stage, including the Balinese opera the male artist. Jegog with clown is also staged in the evening. All of the performances are held at Jagatnata Temple. Last but not least, the buffalo race is held at Delodberawah on Sunday, 10 August 2003 from 08.00 to 10.00 mid Indonesian time.
