Klungkung’s Carnival

Several unique events are going to ensue commemorating the 17th August Independence Day Anniversary Celebration in Klungkung Regency. The unique ones is the carnival event on 14 August. The carnival participants gathering at the Puputan Klungkung Park and stride out around the town. Sort attraction will perform in front of the Puputan Klungkung Monument, so a stage will available there. The time executes about 09.00 WITA. The carnival’s participants will be of TK (kindergarten), SD (Elementary School), SMP (Junior High School), and SMU/SMK (Senior High School) of Klungkung surrounding. Each school will perform its own uniqueness and attraction in front of the jury.

The carnival combines arts and students creativity based on Balinese culture. The one of the competed carnival is contain of attraction that retelling about Klungkung’s journey since the war of Puputan (fight until death) against the Dutch Colonial until the newly situation of Klungkung Capital (Semarapura). Through this carnival, the youth and Klungkung’s society may memorizing the struggle of Klungkung’ people in defending their land from the colonialist.
Beside the unique carnival, there is also a school March competition between Elementary, Junior, and Senior High School of Klungkung area. This event usually carried out before the Independence Day celebration. Another situation that can be found at the city that located 40 Km from Denpasar is the crowded of local visitor who visits Kertha Gosa tourism attraction and Puputan Klungkung Monument.
Under the monument, the collection illustration is available to watch, which describes the condition of Semarapura from the kingdom age, Dutch Colonialist and Japanese Colonialist, and up to Development era. The local visitors are mostly from students who sufficiently visit the monument after the flag-displayed ceremony. While fills the holiday, they can also remind the prior town situation. (BTN/033)
