The Show Must Go On
New from Nusa Dua Festival

‘The show must go on.’ This expression is suitable for the Nusa Dua Festival. This seventh annual festival took place on schedule from 22-28 August 2003. “Even if Indonesia is agitated by the terrorist’s bomb on 5 August, we will still carry out the festival,” said Ir. I Made Mandra,M.Sc to Bali Travel News lately.

As the resort organizer of Nusa Dua tourism, Mandra who also as Head Director of BTDC (Bali Tourism Development Corporation), is even trying to seek a new penetration within this festival. Through this festival, BTDC tends to promote the locals arts internationally to the world. For this effort, his ally holds IPAM (Indonesian Performing Arts Marts) that ordinarily is organized by the Minister of Tourism and Culture. “The problems arise within the overseas participants. We are anxious by the lack of foreign audience and participants in this festival. We’ll see whether they influenced or not of post-bombing of JW Marriot Hotel,” said Mandra pessimistically.
This year NDF 2003 is quite simple in program. From the previous year, the hotel in BTDC area are all totally involved, but at present, the hotel’s participation only appears in Peed Agung (Grandiose Parade) and other hotel activities. None of the competition are available like in the the previous year, however the performing arts are still in high quality standard.

New Penetration
If the year before the NDF was focussed on performance and exhibition while the only merrily show was of Peed Agung as the opening carnival, then for this year execution is differently then before. It will emerge from the material and activities of this seventh annual event.
According to the Chief Organizer NDF, Drs. I.GK.Purnaya, MSc, his side already implements new penetration to increase the festival
quality. Explaining that the NDF will transform to become one prestigious arts and culture event within the international sight. “To obtain the prestigious value, we corporate with National Education Department and Tourism and Culture Department,” he said while asserting through IPAM, direct companionship in arts will appear within the sellers and buyers.
From the companionship, a commitment will occur within both allies in the form of show exhibition contract or partnership, whether inside the country or abroad. Meanwhile, the partnership with the National Education Department is in the form traditional sports game in NDF. The registered participants already reached 30 provinces/regencies from all Indonesia. “We collaborated also with Udayana University in performing the cultural seminar that was followed by the participants from 21 countries,” he explains.
The other fresh obsession is the East Indonesian Encoridor participation from Eastern of Indonesia. The golf tournament will be executed to promote the eastern Indonesia tourism. This tournament followed by 125 golfers and performed at Nusa Dua Golf Yard. The committee also prepared for exhibition stand. The exhibition stand turnover increased from 53 last year to become 67 this year. “That’s refers to the participant level increasing for 2003,” he said while asserted 17 provinces/regencies already bought the exhibition stands.
Purnaya who is also Operational Director of BTDC expected that the hotels and guides ask their guest to visit NDF at the BTDC complex. Besides watching a spectacular arts event and traditional sports, they can also enjoy the excellent exhibition products from various areas of Indonesian archipelago.
