SWISS
COWS IN BALI Sold !
JIMBARAN
Swiss Cows in Bali,
a mixed cow exhibition was available
in Bali, allocated at Garuda Wisnu
Kencana, Bukit Ungasan, on last Saturday
(9/8). The idea came from Peter Studer
and his wife Ruby Struder, a Switzerland
citizen who had stayed for 9 years
in Bali, as the art director. The
cows are made from fiberglass polyester
in real size and contain of characteristic
of Bali cultural painting, for examples,
the praying people, offering tools,
barong, baris dance with complete
costume ornament. This Swiss trademark
that painted by Balinese painter was
put in an auction with average value
of US$ 2.000 (about 16 million Rupiahs)
even reach for US$ 10.000 (about 80
million Rupiahs). Such of those Balinese
painters are Made Wianta, Made Djirna,
Wayan Darmika, Made Budhiana, Murniashi,
Wiradana, Wayan Sika, Pande Sukada,
Made Kaek, Stephan Spicher (Switzerland
painter), and the children painter

Trekking
Saves Environment
BADUNG-
A training on introduction to agro-tourism,
especially on trekking activities
around the farm, has been carried
out in Banjar Semanik, Pelaga Village
(Badung), July 27, 2003. About
75 people were very enthusiastic to
join in this training. The chairman
or organising committee, Mrs. Made
Ria Defiani, M.Sc., a lecturer from
Udayana University (Bali), said that
this program needed to be followed
up by a more detail action in order
to make this tourism package ready
to be launched, and bring economic
benefits to the community. In
this training, an overview about relationship
between nature and tourism, and the
strategy for development of environmentally
friendly trekking activity in farms
has been given by Mr. A. A. Gde Raka
Dalem, M.Sc. Participants were
also
handed printed materials which
described the potentials for development
of agro-tourism in Semanik written
by Mrs. Adriani Astiti, M.Si., Mr.
Sang Ketut Sudirga, M.Si., Mrs. Rai
Suarni, M.Si., Mrs. Ria Defiani, M.Sc.,

Painting Competition for The Little
Ones
MENGWI
- PORSENI (Pekan Olahraga dan Seni
- Art and Sport Competition) or PORDES
(Pekan Olahraga Desa - Village Sport
Competition) will held in commemorating
the 58th Indonesian Independence Day.
Usually, the activities
involve many participants and the
audience as well. This nuance happened
at Kapal Village, Mengwi, on last
Sunday (3/8). Seen on the picture,
the student from kindergarten and
Elementary school of Kapal village
surrounding are taking their painting
works after announcing as the winner.
Many of them develop talent as painters
by obtaining guiding and education
