Orange Harvesting in Northern Badung

Badung Regent, AA Oka Ratmadi, with his team is doing orange harvesting at Bon sub village, Belok Sidan Village, Petang, on last Friday (22/8). According to the Chief of Subak Abian Giri of Bon sub village, Made Mundra, this event is as the second harvest activity since the year 2002. After bombing tragedy of Kuta, Mundra said descending orange price reached up to Rp. 1.500/Kg. “It’s lowered than previous price Rp. 2500 – Rp. 3000/kg,” he said to Bali Travel News.

It said, the citrus fruit of keprok (tangerine) and siam (orange) type had been offered for Rp. 40 millions with entire stock bargain or about Rp 1500/kg. However, his side is not daring enough to sell it, because afraid of loss in profit. Bon sub village contain seven groups consist of 15 – 20 persons.
Thus far explains, within the citrus harvesting the Regent sufficiently having a dialogue with the citrus farmer. Made Mundra, the group leader reports that the obstacle faced by his group presently is serious damage of road’s condition connecting Bon sub village with Kintamani 1 km ahead. It certainly impend the harvest marketing result to Kintamani and Buleleng. Mundra expects that a credit with low payment may available for the farmer to take care of their citrus tree and other plants, because the treatment of citrus tree is very expensive.
The Regent Ratmadi who accompanied by Legislative Chief of Badung, Ida Bagus Suryatmaja, directly note about low credit that asked by villager. Thus, he will optimize the function and role of LPD (Lembaga Perkreditan Desa -Village Crediting Organization) within the village, and expect the BPD (Bank Pembangunan Daerah - Regional Development Bank) as the foster father able to respond the local’s desire.
For the damage road, coordination will organize with PU (Pekerjaan Umum - Public Works) Official in Regency Administrative of Badung. Mean while, Suryatmaja suggests a solution to brought in the investor to create the processing industry of orange, tomato, chili, etc around Belok Sidan Village with the purpose to give additional value on the harvest season, where the price often decrease and the farmer will not having a great loss.
Due to Bali Travel News observations, Belok Sidan Village has natural mountain panorama with breezy air height of 1000 m above the sea surface. The agro-tourism of Belok Sidan, which located on the three regencies border of Badung, Bangli, and Buleleng, may compete with the other area. (BTN/018)
