Sapi Grumbungan Competition in Lovina

Commemorating the 58th Independence Anniversary, The Tourism and Culture Office of Buleleng held the sapi gerumbungan competition followed by the cow breeder from entire Buleleng. The competition took place at Kaliasem Public Park, Lovina area, Wednesday (13/8). The competition was executed merrily. Many foreigner tourists bond together with the locals to watch traditional competition that followed by 27 couples of cow with colorize decoration.

Head of Buleleng’s Tourism and Culture Office, Ida Bagus Puja Erawan said, this sapi gerumbungan competition would be performed every year. However, this year events were designed much better than the previous year. Meanwhile the Buleleng Regent, Bagiada, promising in his speech that will conclude this sapi gerumbungan festival as an annual event and slot in the calendar of event inside the tourism brochures. It is aimed as a conservation process of Buleleng’s traditional culture and promotion media as well.
This event was enjoyed by thousands of Buleleng people and tens of tourists while enjoyed their vacation in Lovina and its surrounding. Moreover, when the coachman and his cows collide on the court, the tourist also asked to get up on ‘tenggala’ (chariot) and ride around the court.
Buleleng’s cultural observer, Gede Darna, the jury of that festival, said the assessment is not based on the speed, but it relatively based on the art attraction element, such as cow’s decoration, the coachman performance, and the cow’s movement on the court.
In this festival, the cow doing a movement attraction for assessment category, like dancing by swaying and soared its head, and whipped its tail. According to Darna, sapi gerumbungan is an old traditional sport. On previous aged, sapi gerumbungan competition performed by the farmer, in order to celebrate an overloaded harvest result.
The competition was divided into two categories, group A (mature cow) and group B (young cow). Decided as the winner of sapi gerumbungan in a row with its coachman: Wayan Nuraka (Bila village, Kubutambahan), Ida Komang Widana (Banjar village) and Kadek Santika (Panji village, Sukasada). For group B, the winner in a row: Nyoman Bangsing (Bebetin village, Sawan), Nyoman Sutarsanta (Menyali village, Sawan), and Ketut Wijana (Banjar Tegal sub village).

Governor Trophy Golf Tournament

The Golf Tournament of Governor trophy will take place on 23,24, 25 October 2003. The annual event that executed at three different places will invaded 450 golfers of domestic and foreigner. The tournament performs on three golf courts, which are Bali Golf & Country Club (BGCC) Nusa Dua, Bali Nirwana Resort (BNR), and Bali Handara Kosaido – Bedugul.
According to Committee Organizer Chief, Brigadier General Purnawirawan (retired) Wayan Arjana, this golf tournament will be of annual event that performed by Bali Local Government. It purposed to promote Bali as a safe place. Thus, this golf event contain of essential meaning in creating Bali image as a destination that free from any security disturbance and suitable to visit.
Meanwhile, IB. Antara, the Daily Director of PGI (Persatuan Golf Indonesia – Indonesian Golf Association) of Bali branch said, his side often performed a road show to overseas countries such as Australia, Singapore, and Korea, to promote Bali after the terrorist bomb tragedy. The invited golfers are well welcomed for this event and disposed to come. “Even less, they will play at the most beautiful difficulty level of court in the world,” Antara said in promotion.
The participant involved in this event are from Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Japan. “We optimistically hope that this event will gain such of success, because Garuda and nine other flight enterprises are ready to promote this tournament with special package price,” he asserted again. (BTN/013)
