Batur Lake, Bangli’s Mainstay Tourism Destination

The lake and mountain at Batur and Kintamani, are the main attractions at the regency of Bangli. Domestic and foreign visitors regularly visit these beautiful areas, moreover they believe that their visit will not yet be completed if not to see the lovely scenery of both the lake and mountain, in this popular area.

The breezy and exquisite outlook of the lake measuring 1.600 hectares is spread along from east to southeast of the mountain. If viewed from Panelokan, at the upper part, the lakes’ blue waters will fuse centrally with the mountain. This beautiful panorama preserves the unique and interesting traditional culture of its people.
There are five traditional villages at the border of Lake Batur, renowned with the name Desa Bintang Danu. These five villages still uphold their traditions. Trunyan Village’s tradition, which is not to burn or bury their villager’s corpses’, but only to lay them down at the village cemetery. Any bad odors are contained due to the location.
Tourism organizer’s in the Bangli regency are determined to preserve the lovely natural views of Lake Batur, and also provide maximum service for it’s guests, as stated by the Head of Tourism and Culture of the Bangli Regency, Drs. I Wayan Warta Megantara. Dr Megantara said his office is continually striving to create service and comfort improvements for guests, through efforts by local villagers.
Whilst I Wayan Warsa T. Bhuana, SH, one organizer of the Bintang Danu Foundation, a local body that organize Kintamani’s tourism, said that his side constantly co-operates with tourism organizations such as PHRI, Travel Biro and Bangli Regency Administration, together with other society components, with the aim of preserving eternally, especially Lake Batur and Kintamani in general, to realize the Sapta Pesona, i.e., the cleanness, security, and orderliness of these treasured areas.
Information gained from the Fishery Department of Bangli, says that it’s planned, towards the end of 2003, that a unique fishing pool pilot project will be carried out at the western border side of Lake Batur by using jala dan tong apung (a net and floating barrel), belonging to the local villagers. According to Ir. Wayan Budi Warmana and Ir. Alit Parwata, officers of the Bangli Fishery Department, when the pilot project development is completed, visiting tourists will able to fish whilst enjoying the lovely panorama of the Lake.
On the other hand, Putu Yudaman, a tourist officer from the Bangli Tourism and Culture Department, said his ally’s obsession is to provide a maritime festival, which will include a specially adorned boat, hoped to attract further visitors to the Lake area. (BTN/030)
