Spiritual Sight with Black Stone Sand
Ponjok
Batu temple is located at the eastern corner
of Buleleng Regency, in the Tejakula Sub
district. The temple was built around 16th
century AD and is visited by Hindus from
all over Bali for praying. The temple provides
spiritual nuance, and a lovely panorama.
The left and right sides of the beaches
are spread with black sand and clusters
of black rock. The sand and cluster rock
makes the seawater clearer and unpolluted.
A traditional figure from east Buleleng,
Ketut Warkadea, tells that Ponjok Batu Beach
at east Buleleng, is in one line with Air
Sanih Beach and Bukti Beaches in the Kubutambahan
Sub district. At the eastern end is Gretek
Beach, Samirenteng Beach, Les Beach in the
Tejakula Sub district.
Among all these beaches, Ponjok Batu is
the only one with high spiritual nuance.
Set near Ponjok Batu Temple, the beach has
a spiritual history related to the journey
of the Hindu priest, Danghyang Nirartha.
From that beach Danghyang Nirartha departed
from Bali to Lombok in the 16th Century.
Evidence found on a beach rock in the shape
of a boat, is believed to be a departure
sign of Danghyang Nirarthas journey
to Lombok. The rock is now an attraction
for local and foreign tourists.
Another unique nuance is spring water found
on the beach. The covered rocks retain the
purity of the spring. Even though the visitors
are small in numbers, many come to the beach
to enjoy the sunset, and watch fisherman
sailing the ocean.
