Cake and Pie
The
Balinese have many kinds of ceremonies such
as temple festivals. Cremation and wedding
ceremonies. In all the ceremonies, there
is always the ritual offering in leaves,
flower and cake. The raw material for such
a cake is rice both black and white rice.
The cakes are made of rice powder. The shape
and form of them are symbolic; having philosophy
of the region. The main figures in the trinity
are also created in the form of Balinese
cake. Bird and other beasts, flower, leaf
are the inspirations to create such a cake.
It will be more interesting for tourist
to watch Balinese people to make Balinese
cake few days before the temple festival.
From producing rice powder to frying the
cake at the temples kitchen. The female
members of the village wearing traditional
costumer flock together in the temple for
preparing temple festival.
In
the other hand, there is other kind of offerings,
which are dominated with cake locally known
as canang meraka. In this case, Balinese
brings the offering to the temple individually
and after praying then they eat the cake
in the family compound. The cake is not
symbolic, it is made in conjunction with
the function, for snacks. The cake is boiled
or fried. There are two ways to arrange
the offering: put in bamboo baskets or as
cake arrangements, which, could be seen
in the gebogan procession.
For those staying in the Jembrana regency,
it is suggested to visit temple festivals
in the many temples such as: Jati, Candikumara,
Mertasari, Majapahit, Rambut Siwi, Perancak
and also at Jagatnatha temple in the town
of Negara. The Balinese also create cake
for only one purpose snack. The cake and
pie for a snack could be found is the traditional
market at Melaya, Negara, Mendoyo, and Pekutatan
as the country town in Jembrana regency.
The function of the cake is for offerings
