Bangli,
Peace and Harmony
Husband
and Wife Art Instructor Team
Demulih
village, Bangli sub district, can be said
as the source of many artists. A lot of
talented artists were born in the village,
for example, I Nengah Badra (pedalangan/puppeteer),
I Wayan Dudet (undagi/Balinese architect),
I Nengah Darsana (dancer), who made Bangli
become famous in several arts events.
The
couple I Nyoman Susila Ni Nengah
Suariati are two young artists from Demulih
village who equal the above two. This couple
have a different arts-background compared
to village artists because of their academic
background. The husband, I Nyoman Susila,
graduated from STSI (Indonesian Arts Institute)
Denpasar in 1991 in the karawitan department,
while his wife, Ni Nengah Suariati, graduated
from the SMKI Denpasar dance department.
This couple now have two daughters, and
are actively engaged in many arts events
such as the Bali Arts Festival, and also
as art instructors in Bangli. Suariati who
spent her childhood learning dancing from
Mr. Tempo and Ketut Gatri (dancing master
from Tampaksiring, Gianyar) and also Gerindem
(Teges sub village, Peliatan) confesses
to have already taught hundreds of students
most of them already becoming artists. Now,
I give lessons of classical dance to the
children in Selat Tengah sub village and
Selat Kaja Kauh sub village, Susut sub district,
she said to Bali Travel News when we interviewed
her at her house.
Suariati who is skilled in performing the
Teruna Jaya dance and classical dances such
as legong kraton, is very enthusiastic to
share her skills to other people particularly
to children to keep improving their talent
and interest in arts.
The
husband, I Nyoman Susila, also does much
the same thing. He dedicates his talents
in karawitan/tabuh (music instrument) to
teach many sekaa gong (traditional music
group) to entire villages.
Focusing a profession as a civil servant,
this happy couple can still arrange their
time to spread their skill to others. The
husband, I Nyoman Susila, works in Department
of Culture and Tourism of Bangli regency
whilst his wife works as a teacher in SMU
Negeri (Senior High School) II Bangli, but
still enjoy serving people through the arts.
