Birthday Party

Kuta – On the 17th of May 2003, it’s very special day for Mr. Ray Suryawijaya, SE. MBA, the General Manager of Kuta Paradiso Hotel. On that day Mr. Ray celebrated his birthday with all Department Head and staff of Kuta Paradiso Hotel. In his speech, Mr. Ray conveyed his great thanks to everyone who support his carrier. Mr. Ray also hopes that the situation and condition that happened on the tourism industry will not make the employees decreased their prestige, and their quality of work. (*)

 

Trekking Guides

Kintamani – In the third and fourth weeks of May, about one hundred guides, drink vendors, and other stakeholders who are involved in Mt Batur trekking activities, received special training. The program covered skills related to basic knowledge about trekking, tourism in Kintamani, the history of Mount Batur, safety and rescue and environmentally friendly tourism The training, which was organized by Diparda Bali (Bali Tourism Authority), is expected to improve participants’ skill in the subjects covered. According to Mr. A. A. Gde Raka Dalem, one of the resource people on the training and a lecture in Eco-tourism and environmental management from Udayana University (Bali), every stakeholder should improve their concern about environment, especially on nature. This is because it is a major source of attraction for tourists who trek on Mt. Batur. Presenting his paper on environmentally friendly tourism, Raka Dalem was asked many questions by participants who were very enthusiastic about the topic. (BTN/028)

‘Gebogan Jajan’ Decoration Contest

DENPASAR – Denpasar Municipality’s participants in Bali’s 25th Art Festival 2003 joined a contest called ‘Gebogan Jajan’ - structure of cakes - usually used for decoration and traditional rituals, held in front of Pura Jagatnata Saturday, 24 May 2003. There were 14 participants coming from ‘PKK’ of Denpasar Municipality’s women’s groups of Family Prosperity Development, women’s associations and individuals. This contest invited great interest from visitors eager to watch the event. At the same time, there were also other similar contests such as producing knife sheaths made of ‘lontar’ palm leaves, joined by 36 participants (BTN/015).

 

 

 

Ubud’s Painter Budiana Goes to Tokyo

DENPASAR — An Ubud painter who is also skilled in preparing cremation towers, I Ketut Budiana (53) is to open an exhibition of his works on 7 June 2003 for the second time in Tokyo under sponsorship of Tokyo’s Station Gallery and many other institutions from both countries, while the first exhibition came to the fore in 1985 together with artists. Speaking in a press conference in Danes Art Veranda, Tanjung Bungkak, Denpasar 22 May 2003, Budiana told audience that his single exhibition will end at 21 July 2003 after showing 72 paintings to the public to the Tokyo’s people, while formerly has hold exhibitions in Jakarta, Singapore, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain and the USA. Turtles and Marine Mammals

Denpasar - About 60 members of the Veterinary Sciences students association from universities throughout Indonesia participated in a national Training and Workshop on Handling Stranded Turtles and Marine Mammals as well as in Establishing a Network for handling those animals, in Denpasar, May 23-24, 2003. This program is very important since the animals are becoming a tourist attraction despite the fact that their status might be vulnerable or close to extinction. Therefore, the conservation issue is very important to be considered in using the animals as a tourist attraction.
The training, besides being about stranded turtles and marine mammals, focused issues regarding coastal areas, especially the mangrove ecosystem and Eco-tourism bird watching. This activity was sponsored by WWF Indonesia Wallace Program and APEX Environmental (Australia), and supported by other parties such as the Bali Post. The resource people on this event were Mr. Benjamuin Kahn from APEX and Dr. Windia Adnyana from WWF. Mr. A. A. Gde Raka Dalem from Udayana University (Bali) was appointed as a resource person on field work on the Eco-tourism bird watching tour, while Mr. I Wayan Restu (Udayana University) was as a resource person on the mangrove tour.(BTN/028)
