Bangli,
Peace and Harmony
A
A Ketut Rai
Loves Her Grandchild
Even
though not represented, in Bangli Regency,
the figure of Agung Ketut Rai can be a sample
of how tough it is for a mother in Bangli
especially, and Bali in common, to struggle
for and survive in their daily life and
existence.
The
young AA Ketut Rai is a keen and perseverant
girl. Although only graduating from senior
high school, she is an experienced dancer.
She frequently staged performances in the
state palace in Jakarta. When she worked
in the Information Department of Bangli,
she was an excellent MC. On her retirement
from the Tourism and Cultural Office Bangli,
AA Ketut Rai, together with her children,
pioneered much business such as beauty salons
and entertainment venues.
From her marriage with AA Gde Putra, she
bore 5 sons and 1 daughter. At the time
when her husband passed away in 1991, her
children were still in senior high school
and college. Supplied with a salary as a
civil servant, she was able to survive whilst
financing her childrens school and
family needs, as ceremonies and religious
activities cost a lot of money.
With her eagerness and impetuousness, she
solved the family problems one by one. With
a deep thanks to God, after graduated from
school, two of her sons obtained work with
a foreign company (cruise ship), and now,
4 of her sons are working abroad.
According to AA Ketut Rai, the happiness
of a mother is when she succeeds to educate
her children to become independent people.
However, the great joy is with my grandchildren
who will later forward the generation. Now,
I seem to love my grand children as my children,
said AA Ketut, who now has 5 grandchildren.
As a Balinese woman, she said, ones
joy cannot quantify from material needs,
spiritual and social necessity also plays
a significant part. Consequently, AA Ketut
Rai said, the Balinese mother and womankind
are always willing to close themselves with
God the Almighty, to keep the harmonic affiliation
with people through religious and customonial
activities. (BTN/Suka)
