s New Route, More Flight
Competition in South East Asia
Flight
business competition is getting more competitive
in Indonesia and in South East Asia with
the appearance of new companies within this
area. This is the observation result of
Bali Travel News during the last three weeks.
Indonesian
domestic flights is colored with the appearance
of no-frills companies, which offers a competitive
ticket price. Garuda applied this system
through City Link with flights to Jakarta,
including twice daily flights to Denpasar.
Other companies such as Batavia Air, Star
Air, Lion Air, Jatayu, etc., snatched away
within the major flight line Jakarta and
big cities in Indonesia.
Outside the line a number of Indonesia
flight companies are trying to extend the
flight link abroad especially the South
East Asia area. Garuda Indonesia, concentrates
in South East Asia by opening the line Kuala
Lumpur from several big cities in Indonesia
such as Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and
Denpasar.
On Sunday (28/3), Garuda Indonesia
opened the new flight line to Singapore
from three big cities, Yogyakarta, Padang,
and Pekanbaru. According to Communication
Director of Garuda Indonesia, Pujobroto
at his press conference, the flight Yogyakarta-Singapura
will be served three times a week using
Boeing B737-300.
This flight is aimed as an access
for foreigners to visit cities in Indonesia,
he said. Besides as a tourism development
effort in Central Java, Pujobroto asserted,
the opening of flight route Yogyakarta-Singapore
is to anticipate the demand request.
Air Asia in Kuala Lumpur also compete
for regional markets in South East Asia
by opening the new flight route from cities
in Indonesia such as Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya,
with flight destinations to Johor Bahru
(Malaysia, only few miles from Singapore)
starting middle April.
The appearance of Air Asia will tighten
the competition between Garuda Indonesia,
Air Asia, and Merpati that also fly to cities
in Indonesia. Air Asia introduced The
First Compatible Flight of Asia. For
the flight line Jakarta - Johor Bahru for
Rp 99,999 or about US$ 12 one way. (BTN/DP)
