Bali Arts Festival Enlivened by Kites

There is something new in the Parade Opening of the 26th Bali Arts Festival (PKB) 2004. It does not only present varied dances, but the parade this year will also be enlivened with parades of various kinds of kites. They are ‘janggan’, ‘bebean’, ‘pecukan’ and ‘creation’ styles that will be put into procession on parade. It is scheduled that
Layang-layang Pelangi Bali Troupe will close the parade by flying kites in the Puputan Margarana Square.

The Parade Section Head, I Gusti Ngurah Ardjana, on Sunday (9/5) said that the kite procession will be enlivened by Adi Merdangga (traditional marching band) arranged by Museum Nyoman Gunarsa Klungkung. “It is a new theme for PKB this year. Having been put into procession, the kites will be flown at Puputan Margarana Square so that it can be seen by invitees and public spectators,” he said.
It was observed that this year’s parade was adjusted to the theme of PKB namely “Utterance of Nature”. Each regency will present its typical art performance. The parade participants at this time will not make a display in front of the invitees (the president and
other provincial officials of Bali wide), except for that of arrangement of ISI Denpasar. ISI will perform great gamelan composition.
In the parade, each regency and town in Bali will present its own arts specialty. They will certainly present monumental works of their great artists. Like Tabanan Regency presents Kebyar Duduk
Dance and Oleg Tamulilingan of Maria, a great artist from Tabanan. Buleleng presents Kebyar Legong and Teruna Jaya of Pan Wandres and Gede Manik. Gianyar Regency performs the composition of Swasti Bandem with her monumental work entitled “Sekar Jagat,” “Manukrawa Dance” of Prof. Wayan Dibia and “Satria Brasta’ of
Nyoman Cerita. Badung performs Legong Kraton Dance of Lotering. Meanwhile, Denpasar performs Margapati Dance of Nyoman Kaler. Karangasem Regency presents its typical arts namely Gebug Ende, Klungkung Regency presents Barong Dance, while Bangli presents Baris Juntal dance. The regency in the western part of Bali, Jemberana, presents “Makepung” (Bull Races) dance of Ketut Swentra.
Participants from outside Bali that have already confirmed their participation are Thailand, Jeju (South Korea) and Japan, and provinces beyond Bali are East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Jakarta. The Bali Arts Festival has as a theme Utterance of Nature: Peace, Beauty and Diversity will take place on the 19 June - 17 July.
