the theme meant to make Bali the island
of flowers.

that described a flock of white heron in
the midst of a park. They looked for food,
flew and played together freely. The dance
was performed by 8 dancers. There was also
a Lambang Sari Dance, a kind of welcome
dance where the dancers welcomed the presence
of spec tators by means of a flower presentation
then sprinkle them as a welcome greeting.
Then, the Legong Jobog Dance depicted two
brothers Sugriwa and Subali who changed
into monkeys. Both brothers, at the beginning,
lived peacefully. Peace changed after they
struggled for Capu Manik belonging
to Dewi Anjani that finally fell into the
river. The streams changed anybody who fell
into them and changed them into monkeys.
It was experienced by Sugriwa and Subali
who kept on struggling until they were tired
and just realized that they had changed
into monkeys.
Afterwards, Genta Bhuana Sari Studio Peliatan
and Padma Nara Swara presented 3 creation
dances successively, namely Janger Gandrung
Kusuma Sari that represented boys and girls
who were happy, having fun in all youngsters
moods and full of spirit . Secondly, the
Bunga Nusa Sari Dance symbolized young girls
who grew adolescent just like blooming flowers
emitting beauty and amazing splendor. The
last, Nusa Damai Dance was a representation
of life comprising diverse culture and respecting
harmony to reach Nusa Yang Damai (Peaceful
Island). All presentations at the opening
of FND were choreographed by Ir. A.A. Dalem
from Peliatan Ubud. The opening ceremony
ended with the performance of Lolot Band,
Balis local rock singer, who was on
the go. Opening Parade
Prior to the opening of FND, a parade was
held in the afternoon. Although the rain
interrupted it for a while, none of the
visitors from the various regions, or even
foreign tourists left their seats. They
came to see the artists along with their
attractions. The parade procession involved
some two thousands artists, both domestic
and overseas, presenting peed agung or a
grand parade of Balinese traditional costume,
umbrellas of grandeur, pennants and decorated
vehicles with assorted flowers and animals.
More visitors than that of previous years
witnessed this years parade, in addition
to art troupes from several provinces in
Indonesia. As participants of the parade,
there were also employees of hotels in the
Nusa Dua area. Some tourists took this opportunity
to participate as well in the parade by
wearing funny and amusing costumes. (BTN/015/para)
