Hindu Youth Conference
to Set Bali Declaration
It
was for the first time a World Hindu Youth
Conference was held in the Kahyangan Ballroom
at Putri Bali Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali on
Friday (26/11). The conference was attended
by delegates from the United States, Singapore,
Australia, Malaysia, India and Indonesia
and discussed several issues like economy,
education and inter religion concord.
The
conference that was attended by some 25
overseas participants and 75 from Indonesia
succeeded to conclude a Bali Declaration
and World Hindu Youth Organization (WHYO).
The Bali Declaration comprised refusal to
commercialization of temples or other Hindu
sanctums, comprehensive socialization of
the Holy Scripture Veda throughout the world
and the needs of sex education at schools
in accordance with Vedic principles. In
the economic sector, it was considered very
urgent to establish a Hindu foundation.
Similarly, Hindu Youth should serve the
people and avoid violence.
Interestingly, the declaration also recommended
the establishment of World Hindu Youth Organization
chaired by Arya Wedakarna. In addition,
Bali was appointed the office of secretariat
general of WHYO, while other four branches
of WHYO secretariat were set up in the USA,
Malaysia, Australia and Indonesia. The performance
of the 2nd World Hindu Youth Summit was
planned to take place in Washington DC,
USA in 2006.
According to the Chairman of the Organizing
Committee, A.A. Ngr. Arya Wedakarna, during
the four-day event, it performed activities
like seminars and presentations from each
delegate highlighting the background of
Hindus from each country in terms of political,
economic, cultural, social, educational
and women perspectives. Poverty on material
and human resource levels were also discussed.
On completing the conference, it will
be continued by performing Tirtayatra (holy
pilgrimage) to some temples in Bali,
he added.
