“Tumpek Landep” Grateful For Intelligence

Saturday Kliwon Wuku Landep (based on calendar of Balinese pawukon), 8 January 2005 Hindu people in Bali conducted Tumpek Landep. This ceremony is carried out every 210 days. According to tradition of gugon towon (accepted off hand), society submits offerings for weapons which are made of iron, like keris (dagger) and others. But nowdays its growth and devotion is also placed on objects including industrial equipment, transportation and other technological products including computers.
According to the secretary of Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia, Bangli Regency, I Wayan Rupa, S.Ag, ceremonies that are dedicated to Ida Sanghyang Widi Wasa (God Almighty) are targeted to worshiping and praising God and thanking His blessings at the ceremony of Tumpek Landep that is addressed to Ida Sanghyang Widhi Wasa in His manifestation as God Pasupati.
According to tatwa (in philosophic manner), as Rupa said, all mankind on Tumpek Landep shall be grateful for gifts of intelligence bestowed by God to mankind. “Have been given an opportunity to drive a car, and gifts for technological use, altogether will be thanked,” he said.
What is required to be noted, Rupa said, all weapons, equipment and patrimony objects made from iron are included in the ritual ceremony and not intended to curtsey the object itself. These are called pralingga, or a medium towards God to straighten the wrong perception that Hindu people are curtseying the keris, harpoon, etc.
On Tumpek Landep people place offerings on vehicles, machine, keris, harpoon and other objects, also placing offerings at each family’s religious shrine. In Bangli Regency, piodalan Betara Guru is held a day after Tumpek Landep. (BTN/Suka)
