John Lantang, Flores Promotion

Succeeding in flight serving 14 cities in Papua – Irian Jaya, private operator Germania Trisila Air (GTAIR) presently released the flight Denpasar – Labuan Bajo 4 times a week. It is opening this new flight service, considering the visiting tourist quantity also the natural panorama and underwater beautification of Komodo National Park is very unique compared to other world tourism destinations, but it has limited transportation service.
With GTAIR’s new route, transportation and information towards Komodo National Park and it surrounding will become easier. With this new flight line, we expected the domestic and foreign tourist who visits Komodo National park will keep increasing, proclaimed by Director Commercial of GTAIR, John Lantang, while accompanying 20 Travel Agents and tourism reporters following the Educational Tour to Komodo Island and Rinca Island last month.
According to John Lantang, with this new route, Labuan Bajo will transform and become a tourism gate for other islands around Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) territory. “Presently, Komodo National Park is more popular for tourism, so we are tending to service a new flight route”, he said while enhancing that later GTAIR will be ready to serve flights to the entire NTT territory.
Even a month ago, tourist density in using GTAIR flight services increased, seeing from load factor of Denpasar - Labuan Bajo that reached 50 – 55 % on one flight. “That’s means tourists intentions to travel to Komodo National Park is very high”, he said in dialogue with local administrators.
The market segment is Asia. Each month there are 5.000 Asian tourists (Korea, Hongkong, Taiwan and China) who come to Bali. “Just imaging 10% of 5.000 tourists who are interested in going beyond Bali especially to Komodo Island, then Flores Tourism will soar, local government and stakeholders in Labuan Bajo must be ready”. For that reason a promotion board should be formed to promote Labuan Bajo intensively. (BTN/013)
