Sada
Temple Regularly Visited by Foreigners
Sada Temple is located
in Kapal Village, about 14 km to the northwest
of Denpasar. It can be reached with ease
being only 300 m from the main crossroads
of Denpasar Gilimanuk, at Kapal
Village, Mengwi.
The
name Sada comes from the word prasada
which means a slim and stepped shrine
just like a tower. The shrine is shaped
similarly like East Javas shrine,
especially the one built in the golden
period of Majapahit Kingdom (14th C),
whilst the temples inscription was
made on King Jaya Sakti supremacy (12th
C), so the adored God is Ratu Sakti Jayengrat.
Recently, the question appeared was whether
Sada Temples construction influenced
the shrines character in Java or
contrary.
Sada Temple is maintained by Kapal villagers
that consist of 18 sub villages. We
are often visited by foreigners who bring
specific instructions from their country
about this temple. Moreover, some of them
do research on the temple, said
Jero Mangku I Made Berata while explaining
that a Dutchman once asked about the site
and meaning of each shrine in detail speaking
polite Balinese fluently.
Jero Mangku also tells another story about
a German tourist. Once, he heard
about Sada Temple in his country, and
it made him curious to see the temple,
said Jero Mangku who is predicted to be
the 30th generation of I Gusti Celuk.
Sada Temple composition is sited between
Pemebetan sub village and Celuk sub village
consists of three parts. The first part
is Jaba Sisi the outer part, containing
Ratu Sedahans shrine and a big beringin
tree which is leafy and hundreds of years
old.
The next part is Jaba Tengah, the middle
temple part, containing Bale Semanggen,
Perantenan (kitchen), Bale Kulkul, Bale
Gong and Gedong Persimpangan. And the
last part is called Jeroan the innermost
part, containes of 65 small shrines, 3
big shrines and 2 major shrines, which
are Pelinggih Candi and Pelinggih Dewi
Manik. So, Sada Temple totally has 85
pelinggih (shrine).
The feast day ceremony of Sada Temple
falls on each Tumpek Kuningan. When this
day comes, people around Bali will come
to pray. Most people who come and
pray are Bualu villagers, also villagers
from Bukit Kampial , Jimbaran Kuta and
Tabanan, he explained
The ceremony is held for three days; the
first day is the climax ceremony which
is full with ritual activities, praying
together and sacred dance performances,
the second day is called manis odalan
and the third day is paing odalan,
which usually performes a Barong Dance.
At least there are four Barongs that routinely
staged, Barong belongs to Bangun Sakti
Temple, Taman Sari Temple, Dalem Temple
and Selonding Temple.
Another ritual is on Tumpek Kerulut day
as the special feast day for Ratu Made
Shrine. People who pray on this day are
the family of Puri Mengwi and Ratu Celuk
clans. Odalan (temples feast day)
is also held on Tumpek Landep especially
dedicated to Ratu Panji Shrine, maintained
by Kapal villagers and from surrounding
areas. (BTN/015)
