Assisted Survivors of Natural Catastrophe
The
Earthquake and tsunami that crushed 6 countries
in the Indian Ocean coastal region on the
26th of December was recorded as a great
catastrophe that killed more than 150,000
people with millions of others losing their
homes. Sympathy expression and humanitarian
aid from foreign countries flow incessantly
to Aceh and Nias Island that belongs to
Indonesia.
As an embodiment of sympathy and care towards
the victims of the tsunami in Aceh and Nias,
North Sumatra killing some 120,000 people
the components of Bali tourism established
a humanitarian post named the Bali Crisis
Center (BCC). This agency is composed of
components of Bali tourism, including the
Bali Tourism Board (BTB) and their stakeholders.
Appointed chairman of BCC for Aceh and Nias
catastrophe is Al Purwa.
As Chairman of the Bali Crisis Center Al
Purwa explained that this agency functioned
as an organization for donators who would
like to make contributions for the survivors
in Aceh and Nias. To make the aid
arrive at the right target, we have envoyed
a team to Aceh and Nias to identify priorities
for the survivors so the aid will not pile
up and become superfluous, he said.
Recovery and rehabilitation of Aceh and
Nias required a long period of time, so
BCC have made long-term plans for Aceh and
Nias development. So, not only funding,
but medicines and other materials to be
sent form the concept and BCC plan for the
long-term recovery of Aceh and Nias,
he said.
Al Purwa added, through the agency he would
invite experts in Bali and ask their opinion,
so the funds available would be beneficial
for the development of Aceh later. They
do not only need money, he said,
there are other needs that is no less urgent,
like the establishment of proper housing,
construction of public bathing, washing
and toilet facilities and other supporting
infrastructure.
The BCC is not only intended for the tsunamic
survivors at Aceh, but it would become a
permanent agency aimed at raising funds
and distributing them to victims of natural
catastrophes all over the world. We
certainly do not expect that this catastrophe
will occur again, but destiny of nature
always says differently, said Al Purwa
while adding that victims of the earthquake
at Alor and Flores (NTT) and Nabire (Papua)
will also get the attention of the Bali
Crises Center.Since its establishment, BCC
has performed real action such
as passing round Rp 150 millions in funding
and sending medical officers from Bali &
NTB to Aceh bringing along donations from
hotels in Bali.
Sympathetic donators who would like to donate
(in cash and other materials) can contact
Bali Tourism Board at 41 Jalan Raya Puputan,
Renon, Denpasar or transfer to Bank Niaga,
Jalan Melati Denpasar, account number 047-0109372-00-4
under the name Aloysius Purwa, Chairman
of the Bali Crisis Center. (BTN/013)
