THK Application at Hotel (6)

THK Restriction and Significance

Before we mark the main theme about THK Application at Hotel, we better understand the restriction of tri hita karana (THK). The words tri hita karana, essentially come from Sanskrit – tri means three, hita (saved/welfare/happiness), karana (cause). So, tri hita karana (THK) means three things causing the happiness.

Textually, THK contains the meaning of three harmonic and balance relationships of intact unity between human and God; among human being; between human and nature that caused prosperity and happiness (Kusuma, 2000).
Tri hita karana (THK) is the local genius transformed as cultural identity. This is referred to Poespowardoyo (1986); Subadio (1986); in Sulistyawati (2000), that can be equally with cultural identity, because it able to accommodate and integrate the external cultural elements into the genuine culture.
According to Sulistyawati and Geriya (2000), THK is not only accommodating and integrating the external elements into the genuine culture, but as well enclosed the Balinese life comportment in many sectors.
Meanwhile, Putra (2000) said that THK is totality characterized to embrace the universe, but not become small for one island, for one territory, one village, one house, one building, even for human it self. THK elements within the universe (macrocosms) contained of physical scenery; human as a nature motivator; and the Almighty God who inspires the universe.
Within human inside (microcosms), THK elements contained of human bodied (angga sarira); power or energy (prana) that activates human; humans living spirits or atman (Kaler, 1983).
Human/microcosms as God’s creation are a tiny part from this great macrocosm, unlimited, great energy resources, and immortal. In Hindu’s upanicad it said, Brahman-Atman Aikyam (soul/spirit or Atman is come from and can fuse with God, or Brahman/ Paramatman). Relation between macrocosm and microcosm or Paramatman and Atman is causality. In creating, God never left behind His creations, but He inspires it (wyapi-wyapaka).
This causality relation within THK concepts signaled to keep in harmony just like jewels and rings, fetus and womb (kadi manik ring cucupu).
According to Hindu’s belief, universe and all it contains is God’s creation. THK concepts recommend keeping the relation between God and His creations always harmonic and balanced. The most abstract way in Bali in keeping this harmonic and balance relation, according to Sulistyawati (2000), is through cultural arrangement development which materializes and contained of three essential parts related with the concept of luan-teben or sacral-profane.
