Taman Sari Visited by 70 German Students
70 German students
who are just about to end their 6 months
study at Udayana University visited Puri
Taman Sari (the residence of Noble family
who are still relatives of the Royal Family
of Mengwi) according to I Gusti Ngurah Kertiyasa,
the owner of Puri Taman Sari on being visited
by Bali Travel News on Tuesday (7/12) at
Puri Taman Sari, in the village of Umabian,
Blayu-Tabanan whch is just few kms north
of the Royal Family Temple of Taman Ayun.
Ngurah
Kertiyasa said, the purpose of their visit
was mainly to increase their knowledge they
have gained from their study at Udayana
University by observing the ways of life
of the people in this village and participating
and following traditional Balinese activities
of which Puri Taman Sari is specialized
for it, and carrying it as its big mission
and vision to conserve and preserve the
old tradition and culture based on Community
Based Participation; dance classes,
making Balinese daily offerings, weaving
coconut leaves to make old traditional containers
to carry fighting rooster kisa, little purses
to put small things in, music lessons, rice
field treks, last by no means least, a Balinese
cake making demo.
Conducted by the tour coordinator Miss Tanja
Fritz, they arrived at Puri Taman Sari at
10.00 AM. After being welcomed by the village
girls at the front gate with bowls of flowers
sprinkled on all of them and then followed
by welcome drinks and fresh young coconuts,
they were very enthusiastic to do one or
few of the above activities which is taught
by the most experienced teachers. At the
end of the activities they were very happy
to get what they made, like those who joined
the coconut leave weaving they carried home
the small Kisa, which can be used for putting
things in. This Kisa is usually used to
put a small chicken or even to carry fighting
roosters to the fighting arena.
Apart from what they could learn from the
above activities they also learned about
ancient Balinese architecture represented
by this Puri Taman Sari with 19th centurys
architectural building with a friendly open
air atmosphere of each building of which
carry its own function such as Saren Daja
(sleeping quarters), Bale Gede (ceremonial
pavilion), Pewaregan (kitchen) as well as
8 guest rooms for guests or relatives who
come from far away village in Bali who frequently
visit and stay over night during the ceremony
held in the house. When there is no ceremony
these 8 rooms are also provided for guests
who are seeking authentic Balinese accommodation
with a peace and quite atmosphere as well
as for those who want to experience the
original and the real life of Bali. (BTN/*/Para)
