Segara Kerthi Ritual
SINGARAJA
Thousands of Balinese people
in Singaraja followed the ritual
of Pakelem or Segara Kerthi at Segara
Penimbangan Singaraja, last Sunday
(23/1). The ritual procession started
by the performing of padudusan ngaturang
rebah, pecaruan/tawur manca kelud,
and next ngaturang ayaban to Ida
Bhatara Dalem Segara, and ended
with the ritual of pakelem. This
ceremony di-puput (lead) by two
sulinggih (priest), Ida Pedanda
Dwipa Sandi from Gria Tohpati, Liligundi,
Singaraja and Ida Pedanda Gede Wayan
Jelantik from Gria Celuk, Sukawati.
The ceremony is aimed to request
to Ida Bhatara (God), so that devotees
in Bali and the entire archipelago
will be saved and prosperity awarded.
The sacrament of pakeleman is sacrificing
the holy animal such as cows, sheep,
kucit butuan (pig), asu belangbungkem
(brownish dog) and geese. This ceremonial
event was attended also by Buleleng
Regent, Putu Bagiada. (BTN/015)

Introducing
Bali and the Tri Hita Karana to
Guests
Alila
Ubud, the hotel which recently won
the Tri Hita Karana Awards (THK
awards), has indicated its strong
commitment to implement the THK
philosophy in its operations. This
involves not only the management
and the hotels staff, but
also local people and guests. For
example, the hotel has introduced
the Tri Hita Karana philosophy to
its guests, through their meet
local encounter programe.
In this program guests will have
a chance to meet local people who
are able to provide information
about Bali, especially about the
Tri Hita Karana philosophy, the
concept and its implementation in
Balinese lives. In the picture,

and his wife who are staying in
the hotel meeting A. A. Gde Raka
Dalem a prominent identity from
Peliatan-Ubud, who is also the deputy
coordinator for the THK Tourism
Awards and Accreditations programe.
In this program, Mr. Roelands has
expressed his interest in Bali after
having discussions and traveling
to tourist destinations and spending
some days in Alila Ubud and Alila
Manggis. Mr. Raka Dalem said that
he is happy to participate in this
program and expressed his thanks
to the hotel management for being
given opportunity to be involved.
