Sport in The Centre of The Island

Many sporting activities can be carried out in the center of Bali namely at Bedugul, starting from tracking, hiking, camping water sport and golf. Water sport can done at Lake Beratan, whilst at Bali Handara with it’s international class golf course is the first choice to play golf. Both locations can be reached in around 2 hours from Denpasar.

Lake Beratan
Lake Beratan is a caldera lake 1,231 meters above sea level, 3.8 km2 in width, with a maximum depth of 22 meters and 0.049 km3 of water volume that can be accessed through the harbor around Ulun Danu Beratan Temple.
Many activities can be done here like motor boating , parasailing, canoeing, banana boating, water skiing, etc.
There are several rental companies for water sport activity, whilst many inns and restaurants are located around the lake.
Eka Karya Botanical Garden which collects various tropical plants is near the lake. Another interesting site is the horticulture market (Candi Kuning Market) that still exists on the road edge of Denpasar - Singaraja which sells fruits, vegetables, flowers, etc. But, mostly sold is corn, tomatoes, and strawberrys, and also live plants for gardeners.
Bali Handara
Bali Handara is located at Pancasari Village, Sukasada Sub village, Buleleng Regency, which is about 1,142 meters above the sea level and 100 ha’s wide. Bali Handara was officially opened in 1974.
The excellence of Bali Handara is the fresh air and the best golf course designed by Peter Thomson, Michael Wolveridge & Associates. This golf course was designed as a golf field, sited around natural forestry.
Bali Handara also has an organized hotel and bungalows comprising of (77 rooms). Another facilities is a restaurant (100 seats), bar & snack bar, conference room, shops, banquet rooms, fitness center, karaoke and tennis courts (2). Massage is also available, besides golf lessons for beginners.

Benoa, to Become an International Harbor

Since October 2004, Benoa’s Harbor Administration (HA) has been raising it status to a first class harbor level administration from a second class level. By then, Benoa Harbor will totally function as an international harbor serving domestic and overseas trading. “It means cargo handling of industrial goods and trading will pass through Benoa,” said the Chief of Benoa Harbor, Drs M. Effendi Syarief, BSc while dialoging with Gabungan Pengusaha Wisata Tirta (Gahawisri) – Water Tourism Entrepreneur Group – recently.

For that reason he asked tourism boat owners and sport recreation operators such as Jet Ski’s, Parasailing, Banana Boats, etc; which as yet are not licensed and exclude other safety sea transport equipments, should immediately become licensed and safety equipped.
According to the record during 2004, boat accidents and other sport & recreation accidents often happen around Tanjung Benoa, such as a Jet Ski’s crashing into Parasailing craft.. This tragedy, according to Effendi, shouldn’t happen if the sports guide and boat driver followed the rules. “For that reason we will check the documents and equipment before leaving the port, like surat kelayakan kecakapan (SKK) – Efficiency Eligibility Document, – passenger and sea-safety equipment,” he said.
Organizing efforts for water tourism in Bali was well welcomed by the Branch Leader Council of Gahawisri, Badung Regency, Nyoman Wana Putra. “We will ask our members to orderly fix their mediums based on the security and safety of the tourist,” he said while adding for the ongoing comfort of visitors his organization will be suggesting a Pos Komando (Posko) in monitoring traffic in and out the Tanjung Benoa waters.
Nyoman Wana Putra also asked the harbor administration not to give permission to any entrepreneurs if the condition in the harbor is full. This will cause inconvenience for passengers and tourists around Tanjung Benoa. (BTN/013)
