Regent of Badung Visits THK Tourism Awards Winner

The Regent of Badung, Anak Agung Oka Ratmadi has made a visit to one of the hotels that won Tri Hita Karana (THK) Tourism Awards, Melia Bali Villas Spa & Resort. On the visit, the figure of Satria Palace Denpasar was accompanied by Badung Tourist Authority, IGN Rai Sudarma, Head of Public Relations Division of Badung I Wayan Suambara, Team Leader of THK Tourism Awards Berata Ashrama and a number of travel journalists.
At Melia Bali, the Regent and party were hosted by John Raja (HRD Director of Melia Bali), Gede Suarsa (Room Division Manager) and Evi Suryaningsi (Public Relation Officer). Having observed the environmental aspect (Palemahan), the Regent praised the management of Melia Bali in managing and preserving the hotel environment. Ratmadi made time to feed a squirrel that sprang from one tree to another. “Animals here are always fed so they are not wild,” said John while adding, not only squirrels, other animals also frequently drop in here, and on certain seasons there is male turtle that lays eggs at the hotel’s poolside.
The Regent was also taken to the hotel area of 4.5 hectares while inspecting the placement of house of worship (Parhyangan). Here, the Regent expressed his admiration again to the hotel as it has paid serious attention to the house of worship for Hindu devotees, while for non-Hindu employees is also provided a special place for saying their prayers.
The regent also visited the hotel’s kitchen and made dialogue with hotel employees who were having lunch at the hotel’s canteen. John Raja explained about human resources development (Pawongan) and management transparency in managing the income from service charges at the hotel. “Our management is open, service charges are announced and publicized daily on the announcement board near the canteen, so employees can monitor it easily,” said John Raja who has worked at Melia Bali for 15 years.
To the journalists, the Regent Ratmadi said that openness in a company is very important to motivate work enthusiasm and create harmonious relationships between employees and management.
Head of Public Relations, I Wayan Suambara, said that the regent’s visit was meant to see first hand the implementation of THK concepts at hotels of THK Tourism Awards winners, chiefly hotels in Badung regency. “For this moment, the regent only heard about THK from the mass media,” said Suambara.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee of THK Tourism Awards Berata Ashrama expounded the program that was launched in 2000 aimed at assessing the eco-oriented hotels in the perspective of Tri Hita Karana. Melia Bali Villas Spa & Resort won Gold Awards for three times in succession, so in 2004 it was entitled to receive Emerald Awards. Apart from Melia Bali that competed in 5-star and 5-star plus category, there were two other THK Tourism Awards winner in Badung namely The Ritz Carlton Resort & Spa and Alam Kulkul Boutique Resort.
