Denpasar,
In the City
Bali
Tangi, Aromatic and Traditional Spa
Tourism
development in Bali in fact has an effect
on the development of small-scale industries.
Foreign travelers visiting this Island
brings into view some small and medium-size
craftsmen. One of them is a small-scale
industry on traditional aromatic and spa
Bali Tangi.
Bali
Tangi is situated at 168 Jalan Kebo Iwa,
Denpasar makes use of ingredients like dried
roots, tubers and flowers. Its superior
products are scrubs, oils, burner oil as
a room refresher and floral incense with
a local aroma. This original production
of Bali support international class spa
industries, either operating in Bali or
overseas. Spa products ordered are scrubs,
salt and so forth.
This small-scale industry was inaugurated
by Chairwoman of Dekranasda Denpasar, Bintang
Puspayoga on the 28 September and has numerous
consumers. Its production has been used
by spa service companies in Sanur, Kuta,
Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Ubud areas and it
also sent to Bandung and Jakarta. While,
for the export market it has just begun
to serve Korea, Japan, China, Australia,
Canada, Germany and Spain.
In addition, there are some other products
that are made into souvenir packages. Our
enterprise, Bali Tangi, intends to support
the spa business, either locally, nationally
or internationally , said I Wayan
Sukhana, the owner of Bali Tangi.
Originally, Sukhana would like his product
to be consumed by local people, but in fact,
it is more wanted by foreign visitors. I
would like Balinese women to keep on caring
for their body, so they look beautiful.
Give an opportunity to household women in
Bali to look after their face and skin,
he continued.
He also added that his business was initiated
in 1999. The idea came to his mind after
hearing the echo of back to nature. For
that reason, he intended to yield a beauty
product that reflects spirit of back to
nature. He took advantage various dried
ingredients like tubers, roots of Bali and
other plants imported from outside Bali.
By the support of his experience as an employee
at a pharmaceutical company and the assistance
of his wife, Yuliani S who was formerly
a nurse, Sukhana compounds the ingredients
by himself. In the meantime, for packaging
he is assisted by seven employees. Dry floral
ingredients with varied aromas are obtained
here in Bali, while for other particular
aromas he imports from Java (Blitar and
Bogor). We have not been able to perform
the distillation by ourselves,
he said.
Yuliani added that the obstacle she faced
was that the Balinese people at all times
felt busy, so they had no time for planting
flowers whereas they frequently used flower
for dissimilar rituals. Formerly,
when I was a nurse at Public Health Center
of Kalasan, close to Borobudur Temple, there
are few chemical industry-manufactured medicines.
The only medicine was vitamins so I tried
to make an effort to cure our patients by
traditional herbs. So, henceforward I read
more books pertaining to herbs and their
qualities, she recalled.
The mother of three children admitted that
she marketed their products through exhibitions
or trade fairs. Every exhibition,
there are always some visitors who buy our
products. Some Balinese women have interest
in our product. Perhaps, they do not know
about it yet, she added.
Nowadays, Bali Tangi produces all kinds
of products made of gardenia like spa products,
incense, massage oil for massaging with
gardenia aroma. In terms of niskala,
(invisible world) the gardenia tree could
make our family harmonious, she added
smilingly. (BTN/015)
