‘Miss Asean 2005’

Indonesia will become the organizer and time host “Miss Asean Pageant 2005”. The summit of the selection took place on the 19 March in Jakarta. The Asean womens beauty contest presents 8 of 10 finalists of Miss Asean have been examined and selected to become winners in their own countries. They are Jhezarie Javier (23) from the Philippines, Panisa Chaikanarakkul (23, Thailand), Ei Yupa Win (21, Myanmar), Joselyn Lee Pek Wan (24, Malaysia), Nguyen Tao Huong (20, Vietnam), Mindy Ng Geok Boey (26, Singapore), Dayangku Farhana Pengiran Haji Bujang (26, Brunei) and Imelda Fransisca (22, Indonesia).

Ida Sudoyo, of the Organizing Committee of Miss Asean 2005, said that except for business and investment promotion, the pageant was also intended to be a medium to promote the allurement and superiority of ASEAN culture to the world. “They will assist to promote trade, investment and tourism of ASEAN countries,” she said while adding that the selecting process for the title-holders refers to three principal criteria, namely intelligence, behavior and beauty. “So, it does not only put forward beauty.”
During their stay in Indonesia, the finalists of ‘Miss Asean 2005’ will visit several provinces that have cultural and customary similarity with their countries of origin. For instance, Miss Brunei Darussalam and Miss Malaysia made a visit to Padang (North Sumatera), Miss Vietnam and Myanmar to Palembang, Miss Thailand and Philippines to Makassar, Miss Singapore and Miss Indonesia to Surabaya.

Planting Maja Tree
For two days between the (13-14 March), these Asean beautiful women visited some tourist attractions in Bali like Tanah Lot, Goa Gajah and take joint bathing at Alila Ubud. Previously, they have had the opportunity to plant Maja (pomelo-like) trees at Hotel Santika Beach, Kuta.
According to Luh Suciari, MICE & Marketing Communication Manager of Santika Beach, the Maja tree signifies unity of the archipelago famous since the period of the Majapahit Kingdom. Its administration territory, according to Suciari, covers the entire Asean region. “It means that ASEAN is a unity of nations that highly appreciates the spirit of fraternity from time immemorial.” (BTN/013)
