Rai International Airport.The market is
0.79 hectares selling fresh fish like
tuna, snapper, Spanish mackerel, lemuru
(sardine-like fish), pomfret, lobster,
layur (trumpetfish-like), squid and so

has not only sold marine fish but also
principal needs and assorted fruits at
the eastern end of the Mina Segara cooperative
office (KUD). Meanwhile, the marine fish
is sold at the beachside location of Kedonganan.
This market is open daily, starting at
5 in the morning up to 7 in the evening.
To get fresh fish, it is advisable to
come in the morning or at noon, considering
that the local fishermen have two schedules
of departure. Fishermen that depart in
the evening (after moonrise) will be back
at noon, while those who depart in the
afternoon (before sunset) will arrive
in the morning.
According to Wayan Mendra, an officer
at the Kedonganan Fish Market, though
there is disparity of departure times,
their fish catch normally reaches great
numbers depends on their success. Once
departed , they can obtain 75 kg to 160
kg of fish especially snapper of which
the price is somewhat expensive. While,
for other kinds of fish, its numbers can
be much more, he said.
He added that the price of snapper of
super quality is IDR 15,000 to 16,000
per kg. Other than snapper, the other
costly fish is lobster. On the contrary,
the most inexpensive fish is tuna, approximately
reaching IDR 6,000 to 8,000 per kg.
The Fish Market of Kedonganan has hundreds
of fish sellers. Apart for selling at
the Kedonganan Market, fish caught by
the fishermen is also sold to Badung,
Kusamba, Karangasem and Penebel Market
in Tabanan. There are always tourists
that make a visit to this market everyday.
They buy directly from the fishermen,
including bargaining. Then, they grilled
it on the beach, explained Menara.
The Kedonganan Fish Market formerly known
as the fish auctioneering station with
buildings measuring 20 X 12 meters. Considering
the activity at the station has been low,
since April 1979, the Bali Governor then,
Ida Bagus Mantra, moved the station to
Negara (West Bali). Afterwards, the local
community founded fish market was organized
by Mina Segara cooperative. There are
179 active members comprising fishermen,
fish sellers, diesel fuel sellers and
fish collecting attendants, while inactive
members amount to 800 persons, he
added.
I Wayan Kadir, treasurer of Mina Segara
cooperative, added that the fish market
gave a positive impact, so the local community
founded cafes along Kedonganan Beach.
At the beginning, these cafes only provided
services to grill fish that was bought
by visitors. Formerly, there were
only five cafes but now there are 80 cafes
here, he affirmed.
Some months ago, the provincial government
of Bali established an Hygienic Fish Market
at the eastern part of the market that
accommodates 30 vendors selling hygienic
fresh fish. This market is the first of
its kind in Bali and the ninth in Indonesia.
