Serangan Releases 50 Turtle Hatchlings

The release of 50 turtle hatchlings and the planting of 600 trees at Serangan Island constituted one of the attempts to conserve natural resources and the environment on the island. “This also means to reduce forest denudation,” said the Director of Bali Regional Office of Forestry Services, Ir. Made Sulendra on Friday (1/4).

The program of turtle hatchling release and tree planting in forest areas of Serangan Island was attended by the Bali Governor, Dewa Made Beratha and components of civil servants of the office of Bali Provincial and Denpasar City Authority. The 50 turtle hatchlings released including 9 ‘cracked’, 1 scaled and 40 green turtles while the 600 trees planted consisted of 200 coastal pines, 200 sea almonds (Terminalia catappa) and 200 ‘flare’ trees.
Ir. Made Sulendra said that this activity was carried out in relation to the program “Bali Hijau” (Green Bali) declared by Governor of Bali last year. “This activity won great appreciation by the local community. They enthusiastically executed the re-greening, with most of them requesting seedling assistance to be planted in their vicinity,” he affirmed.
It was also added that in 2004, the Bali Regional Office of Forestry Services planted 5.6 millions tree seedlings. This re-greening attempt was intended that both roadsides and forests stay everlasting and the environment looks alluring. Trees of re-greening scattered from Gilimanuk (West Bali) to Tabanan along 80 km. “We keep on carrying out re-greening programs which will never come to an end,” he stated firmly. (BTN/DP)

Art Education in Bali

In relation to celebrating National Education Day on 2 May, the community of Bali holds varied art activities with kindergarten students on all occasions carrying out ‘Art Parades’ in downtown Denpasar. They typically perform the parade in diverse costumes from several regions (provinces) right through Indonesia. Meanwhile, the students of elementary, secondary and senior high schools will go round the city in a variety of winsome decorative bicycles. It is the activity carried out by formal schools starting from kindergarten up to senior high school in the vicinity of Denpasar city or other towns in Bali.
Other than formal schools, the Balinese community is a well recognized informal school. In general, these schools provide lessons meant to add to the skills of the students. These schools are commonly known as course, or art studios. Students will boost their skills through these courses like art courses (the art of dancing or painting) or language courses (English or Japanese). For that purpose, we will invite you to have a closer look at the existing informal schools in Bali. Read their activities in this Education Day edition!
